Choosing a delay with presets, DL4, DD200, others?

Post by Flurko » Sun Apr 27, 2025 2:49 am

So, I'm playing in a band with two songs where I'm playing a galloping dotted eight delay part, ala The Edge/Maserati if you're cooler. Right now I'm using a boss DD-7 with a tap tempo, but it's a bit stressful to dial in the tempo when the drummer counts in the start of the song.
I'm using a second DD-7 on my board which I mostly keep in analog mode for more ambient sounds in other songs, so I was thinking of swapping to a unit where I can get presets for the proper tempos of these songs, and have other sounds as well.
It looks like I can get the line6 DL-4 mkII and the Boss DD-200 used for the same price range, has anyone compared both ? I've used a mkI DL-4 a while ago and really enjoyed it, the looper was a pleasure as well but it looks like the DD-200 has a smaller footprint and is easier to save and edit settings with its screen?
Also I haven't properly dug into it but the DL4 mkII has reverbs as well, can it also balance its footprint by allowing me to remove my reverb pedal from my board ? Thanks!

Vox Delaylab. Does everything a DL4 does but feels way more solidly built. Can generally be found pretty cheap too.

It also has multiple banks of effects, I want to say 9 banks with 3 presets each?

I used to have a DD500 which was a great pedal. Bet the DD200 (or even DD20) could get you where you want to be.

As Jonesie said, the Vox Delaylab is a good choice too; less known pedal so deals are out there to be had.

Boss SDE3000? Though it's pricey as hell.

Tc Electronic Flashback X4 is a great sounding thing & really simple to use.
I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

I really liked the TC Nova Delay I once had. I didn't like the way you had to tap through the presets with the footswitches though.
There's also the Nova Repeater which is similar. Both can be had cheap and sound great.

Source Audio Nemesis was this for me. Incredible sounds, super deep with the Neuro app, but incredibly easy to operate as a 'standard' delay with the controls that are visible. It can do up to 128 (?) presets via MIDI, but I've got mine in "dumb" mode with just four that I scroll through with a seperate footswitch.
