Power supplies

Post by idiotbear » Sat Feb 17, 2007 1:02 pm

Ponying up £100+ for a power supply seems excessive to me. Thing is, I'm now the proud owner of 11 boxes that all need 9V, and I'm struggling a bit. What's so great about the Fuel Tank and the Voodoo Lab and the DC Brick that makes them so expensive?

??? :-\

I run five boxes with a OneSpot and a daisy chain.  Get two chains and you're set.

batteries are real simple.

the eh stock battery that i have in my muff is in there like half a year.

yeah i have cheap 5 euro addapters for other pedals. it pays off, if you were to buy a dc brick, it costs like 100 no? and its only for 7 pedals i think? you can get 7 5 euro adapters for 35 euros and its cheaper.

Yeah, like I said, I don't understand the reasons behind a lot of power supplies' high prices. I've gone with the 1-Spot. Cheers, Jetset!

I believe isolated grounds are part of it.  That said, I use batteries for dirt boxes and a 1-Spot with daisy chain for everything else.

Alkaline Batteries last ages in Analog effects,I get about 6months+ out of a Duracell.
I have 9 things that take 9volt so i should get a heap of adapters too really.

I just ordered a Godlyke PA9 and some extra cables, it cost me 80 dollars including shipping costs (an excessive 27,50 to get it to the Netherlands). Don't know if it works yet of course, but at this price it'd better work  >:(.

the problem with batteries is that some pedals will slowly stop functioning properly instead of just stopping when it's empty, my EH Small Stone is one of those pedals: if I have the color down it works and if I have color up it just gets bypassed, all because of the battery.

I put in a different battery and it still did the same so I handed it in for repair. Turns out the other battery was nearly empty aswell, so nothing's wrong with it. Damn batteries.

godlyke powerall, it's about 30 bucks i think, a very cool gadget, and very quiet compared to the boss unit i was using before, comes with all the adaptor plugs to fit most pedals too.

that's the one I bought. Thank god you're positive about it, I spend quite a lot of money on it.

from the reviews I read the Godlyke craps out sometimes, so I got the 1 Spot (plus it was $10 cheaper) I have had it for a month now and it does a great job powers all my pedals except the line 6 and has no hum.

I have had a Godlyke in use constant use for around 5 years now. I've never had any problems with it at all. Any noise issues I have ever had have stemmed from a positive and negative grounded units being chained at the same time. That isn's always a problem though. It seemed to be directly related to a couple specific pedals. That is one of the reasons why I went to the PPII+ with it's isolated outputs. That said, I still have the Godlyke hooked up to the courtesy out on the PPII+  :)

eh, ive never used batteries. i dont know if my boss dirt boxes will sound any better or even different with batteries, i might try it with my big muff. seems like a hassle. and im cheap.

i have a godlyke powerall and a daisy chain. then i have two dedicated adapters, one for my dmm and one for the echo park. perfect.

+1  most of my pedals are EH that means 1-4 screws to get to the battery and I have never noticed a difference with batteries either.
