The older I get, the more in line I am with this thinking. I’m slowly upgrading things here and there to get a solid set of working tools (instruments and gear) built up.

Oh I absolutely LOVE this. The second I break an old tool I start searching something equivalent to "what is the Cadillac of XXX tool?" to find a top-notch replacement.BoringPostcards wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2024 11:01 amThe older I get, the more in line I am with this thinking. LOL, I just meant musical tools, not hand tools and what have you. I just buy whatever works, as far as that stuff goes.Dr Tony Balls wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2024 11:13 amOh I absolutely LOVE this. What I mean is I’d like to eventually have one really good hand-built amp and a bunch of nicely wired pedals. Stuff like what you build. Good stuff.

Fucking May?! Fucking bullshit tariffs will be in place by then.
Have fun with these I guess, Europe.
I think it's finally time to figure out how to run VSTs on an old laptop running linux... or move to Europe... or just pack it in.
But I cannot stress enough how I will never pay for a handwired univibe... on principle

If it wasn't for disappointment, I wouldn't have any appointments.

Re: Behringer drops new vintage stuff!!!
Exactly this, Tony & Todd. I'm happy to try a cheaper version of something but a) if it breaks or b) I decide it's something I'm having as part of the 'toolbox' (audio or hand tools) then I'll buy a really nice version and never look again.BoringPostcards wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2024 11:18 amLOL, I just meant musical tools, not hand tools and what have you. Re: Behringer drops new vintage stuff!!!
But anyway, yeah.
I think these look rad. The price is great obviously. These do look like metal enclosures so they're on a par with every other picker machine fed PCB pedal on the market. I don't get what the panic is over these (other than they threaten the market share for other builders).
But they saw a gap in the market, and went for it. It wouldn't've worked if that demand didn't exist. More access to interesting pedals mean more pedal enthusiasts mean more people willing to replace their already functioning units with more expensive electricly identical versions for reasons that don't affect their signal at all. These should be celebrated.
I think the truly hilarious play would've been to put these circuits into their plastic Boss shaped enclosure and sell klons for 25 bucks. In fact, I'd would've preferred that because that's the only way I'll buy a klone to find out what they even do.
As it is, the only one I'd get is the univibe with the vibrato function. Having the function switch be a foot switch makes it better than the MXR IMO.

Ooooh and now there's also gonna be a clone of the Boss CE-1 Chorus Ensemble!

...a couple months ago Warm Audio has released theirs, pretty cool, too, but at 3x the price of the Behringer!

Yeah, one's made in Texas on what is likely a living wage of some kind, the other is made with almost-slave-labour in China. I'd rather pay more and have a clear conscience.
*(on things I have control over. I am well aware I bought the LM Drum recently, which might make me look somewhat hypocritical - but, please, find me another Linn Drum clone)

I’m almost certain the Warm Audio one is made in China too. It looks and sounds much nicer though.JSett wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 6:43 amYeah, one's made in Texas on what is likely a living wage of some kind, the other is made with almost-slave-labour in China. Re: Behringer drops new vintage stuff!!!
Ahh, maybe they're just 'inspected in USA' then. Either way, there's a reason Behringer are so cheap, the corners have to be cut somewhere. I own some Behringer stuff, but I don't feel good about itmarqueemoon wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 8:51 amI’m almost certain the Warm Audio one is made in China too. Anyone actually tried one of these yet? All I've been seeing anywhere is pre-order only.
