Would a TC Electronic's Stereo Chorus/Flanger be too big? It’s wider than a Boss pedal, but it has top jacks which could open up some room.

They aren’t too expensive for what they are, and that’s a classic bucket brigade chorus sound that can also cover flanger and some pitch modulation-vibrato. It’s not programmable but it has a simple interface.
I think it would fit.

That’s one I’m not familiar with for whatever reason. I’ll check it out.
And definitely a bargain if it does the trick. ($79 but apparently backordered)

The various PastFX pedals might be cool as well. Plus: lots of options and range of settings and weird Australian treats in the box ; minus: the punny names and graphics.

I just got the Hot for Flanger in the mail, which is a MXR-117 thing. It does flanger to chorus sounds well. (I’d had one before and it didn’t stick; this one may also not stick around. Close but the flavor is slightly off for my weirdly super particular flanger tastes; it doesn’t have the right “dark muffle” on the tone for me). They also do versions of the ADA flanger and more and people seem to love the Elastic Mattress (groan)

Speaking of puns, the Eventide Tricerachorus can do some flange and vibrato and weird stuff. I’m going to try some of the sounds in this video on my H9.

Yeah, the TC is not going to be my jam. A little too bright and steely sounding. I want that Johnny Marr throaty chorus into a breaking up amp thing.

Of all the things I’ve checked out the Jam Pedals Ripply Fall would fit the bill best sonically as it’s basically a CE-2 with an extra speed setting and a Phase 45 in one box. Making space on the board would be extremely tough though. Also kinda spendy, so maybe I could rope someone into building something similar with a smaller footprint.

I’m a little shy of the Tricerachorus as I tried a Black Hole once and didn’t get very far with figuring it out.

Maybe worth considering an Ibanez mini chorus and another little one (phaser?).
I really liked the chorus. And the delay (of course).

Re: tricerachorus. The black hole effect is hard to get a handle on. It goes to weird places (not a bad thing but not always usable for normal stuff). I’ve had more fun with the chorus (although doing it all on an H9 so not quite as hands on)

The Ibanez Mini Chorus is a very strong contender. I could fit one alongside my existing phaser.

The EarthQuaker Aurelius is intriguing.

Yeah. Too out there for me. Also a bit too large.

I tried a Walrus Julianna today. It was… pretty good, but I didn’t love it. You can set the tap switch to ramp to a different speed, but it’s momentary, so you have to keep it held down.

I actually liked some of the vibrato features. The random waveform and modest rate/depth settings made for some cool subtle warbles.

Overall it just had a kind of plasticy sound I wasn’t fully on board with though.

I decided to take a punt on something as it was a good deal and seems legit.

It’s functionally pretty similar to the Julianna and a similar concept (digitally controlled bucket brigade), but the 2nd speed control latches and also has a ramping feature.

More info when/if I get it.

Maybe late to the party but I love my Alexander Pedals Sugarcube
Chorus, Vibrato, Rotary, even weird pitch shift sounds.
Couldn't live without it.

The old line 6 blue modeler......has 4 presets and you can upgrade it with some mods.

I had forgotten about these, but too big for my needs.

My bandmate has an old DL4 and while I’ve heard stories about reliability his has been super solid and sounds great.

It’s here! I got a Dedalo Fugu Chorus. Built in Argentina. It’s a dual mode digitally controlled bucket brigade chorus.

Mine is an older version, and doesn’t have secondary control feature for mode 2.

The good: well built, good sound (a nice middle ground between overly warm and cold/steely sounding), switching is completely silent, nice ramping feature between the modes, it was a crazy good deal

The meh: depth control for Mode 2 is super touchy, not a lot of variety in the sound between the 4 waveforms for mode 2, it’s red which is just wrong for a chorus pedal

That sounds very cool (agreed on the color)

Unfortunately this pedal is going back. I mocked it up in my setup and there’s an annoying sweep noise when it’s in a chain with other pedals (but on its own port on an isolated power supply).

I was hoping this would be a cheap solution, and other than the noise it’s great, but the noise is unacceptable.

One silver lining in all of this is I figured out a layout for the board that will work to have a pedal this size or smaller *and* my existing phaser side by side.

So, once I get credited back I’ll either unload some things and get a Ripply Fall or save my pennies for an Analogman Bi-Chorus.

Welp, after much deliberation I ended up getting a blue label (analog) Boss CH-1 Super Chorus.

This and my J Rockett Tranquilizer phaser/vibe are going to be it in the modulation department.

I tried a CE-2W and it’s very nice, but incapable of subtlety. The CH-1 doesn’t get as lush, but I feel like it sits better with dirt pedals.

That surprises me, I think the CE-2W is pretty subtle on the ‘classic’ mode. So much so that I always use the CE-1 mode. I do place it pre-dirt though
I used to use my EHX Ring Thing for chorus and it actually did a very good job of it!
