hows the bass response? does it get nice and thick? i might have to kick my ds-1 off my board if it sounds like i think it does :D
It gets really thick, listen to 'Downward Is Heavenward' by Hum to get a good taste of how the HM-2 sounds, also David Pajo used one as his main distortion on Spiderland :) I highly recommend it, although I don't have much love for DS-1's ;). They can be had cheaply though and you can NEVER have too many distortions.

Is the distortion used on the harmonics of the first track of that album?

Times change.  Remember when dog Jimmy used to go white and chalky?  Now it grows hair!  We got used to it. We'll get used to poly. -blueavenger

Yeah, but it's boosted with a DOD American Metal (behind the HM-2), the other guitar however is just HM-2.

Edit: after just running through it with my HM-2, I think it's just HM-2, they had EMG's in their guitars which would be higher output than stock Strat/Tele/Hagstrom pickups.

It's actually very easy to implement a tube into a circuit as such; you'd probably be better off getting germanium diodes. Now using a tube as a transistor type circuit, thats a little different. In that pic the tube was operated off a different power supply.
you haven't got a schematic for the circuit have you ?

Anybody compared the HM-2 to a Jacques Bat Fuzz? I've got the Jacques, never tried the HM-2 but from the descriptions I've read here it seems they might be somewhat similar. The Bat Fuzz has more controls, it really has lots of sound sculpting options.

Yeah I'd say $40 is a fair price, don't be fooled into paying more for a Japanese one, both versions sound exactly the same.

dont worry, id never pay any more for anything made in another country because it supposedly sounds better. i take a long time to tweak things and get a good sound out of them. i can make anything sound good.  8)

That's what I paid for mine too  :)  I almost bought another on eBay the other night for the same price. I don't really need another, but it's always nice to have a spare. Who knows, maybe they will be one of the next Boss pedals to sell for $200  ::)
