ive gotta say, the hm-2 is looking kindof attractive now.
hows the bass response? does it get nice and thick? i might have to kick my ds-1 off my board if it sounds like i think it does
It gets really thick, listen to 'Downward Is Heavenward' by Hum to get a good taste of how the HM-2 sounds, also David Pajo used one as his main distortion on Spiderland

I highly recommend it, although I don't have much love for DS-1's

. They can be had cheaply though and you can NEVER have too many distortions.

Is the distortion used on the harmonics of the first track of that album?

Yeah, but it's boosted with a DOD American Metal (behind the HM-2), the other guitar however is just HM-2.
Edit: after just running through it with my HM-2, I think it's just HM-2, they had EMG's in their guitars which would be higher output than stock Strat/Tele/Hagstrom pickups.

I know, it is pretty funny, but it actually works. The tube was real, it operated not as a transistor would but as diodes. It's actually very easy to implement a tube into a circuit as such; you'd probably be better off getting germanium diodes. Now using a tube as a transistor type circuit, thats a little different. In that pic the tube was operated off a different power supply.
you haven't got a schematic for the circuit have you ?

When I think Adam Franklin I tend to think DF-2 (Super Feedbacker & Distortion) although there is a HM-2 in his geek rig IIRC .. but mostly I think they probably relied on overdriving the Marshall/Vox amps ... a lot of the studio sound is probably down to Alan Moulder's production anyway.
when I saw SWD in 97 Adam played a Hotcake~>Superfeedbacker~>MKII

Anybody compared the HM-2 to a Jacques Bat Fuzz? I've got the Jacques, never tried the HM-2 but from the descriptions I've read here it seems they might be somewhat similar. The Bat Fuzz has more controls, it really has lots of sound sculpting options.

Yeah I'd say $40 is a fair price, don't be fooled into paying more for a Japanese one, both versions sound exactly the same.

dont worry, id never pay any more for anything made in another country because it supposedly sounds better. i take a long time to tweak things and get a good sound out of them. i can make anything sound good.

That's what I paid for mine too

I almost bought another on eBay the other night for the same price. I don't really
need another, but it's always nice to have a spare. Who knows, maybe they will be one of the next Boss pedals to sell for $200
