Today I spent a couple hours with this:
(I was using the tube Reverb Unit and the little Orange AD5)

I covet your AD5. I've wanted on for years, but they're hard to find and expensive when I do. Telly me everything about how the Duo and the AD5 play together!
It’s a great little amp! My wife got it for me for my birthday about 15 years ago. I’ve used it a ton since then. There’s a lot of Vox character, prob from the EL84. It’s fairly bright but the tone control is good. I usually have the volume up to where it’s at the point of over driving. Play easy and it’s clean, harder and it breaks up. The Sparkle Jet sounds like a really big Telecaster to me, but with more weight and a more 3 dimensional quality. Those pickups are great!

Just a reissue. It’s v nice, although having to learn to approach sound from a different way. That was the plan: play with gain stages and stuff like slapback delay; all the things my high gain life missed out on.

Might be too loud for my needs- even on the lowest setting it’s pretty punchy. Will give it some good playing over the next few weeks & make a call on maybe changing the speaker. Don’t be surprised if this becomes a vibro champ in the near future…

A Vibro Champ can still get pretty loud.

That all sounds fun though. Making a clean amp sound full is a whole different thing.

Ah yeah I guess 5W is still loud as hell.

And yes, it's hilarious to think I've been playing guitar for nearly 30 years & I have no idea what I'm doing with a clean amp :D

The best thing I can say about the PRRIs is the worst thing I can say about vintage PRs. I've never played a vintage one I liked anywhere near as much as any of the RIs. They're pretty nice.

BF/SF Champs are still somehow kinda underrated? I have a dripedge Champ and I prefer it over my tweed Champ TBH. The best thing to happen to a Champ or VibroChamp is a Jupiter 8sc, trust me :D

I was messing around with the Bassman for a bit. I was like, damn, this thing is really lacking in the high end department... then realized I was plugged into the bass channel :D PAFs -> Sunface -> Beano -> Bassman = amazing!

Sorry, I forgot to reply the other day!! I've never had a high-gain amp, so I can't comment there. Playing around with gain stages is a lot of fun. Finding that right combo for a specific amp is very satisfying. I like running 2 amps, and splitting the signal before the gain pedals, so each amp gets a different gain pedal that works really well with that specific amp circuit. And yeah, PRRI's are pretty loud. I'm not sure that I've ever taken mine above 3 on the volume :D

I got a new pedalboard and power supply today. Pedaltrain Metro 24 and a Truetone CS6, and I spent the morning setting it all up. I'm digging this! Just added the Wren & Cuff Blue-Violet Caprid this week, which is heck of a muff clone.

So the rig today:

Jeezemaster -> Peterson Strobeostomp -> GUPTech Double Donut (Double Hot Cake Clone) -> Blue-Violet Caprid -> Boss CE-2W Chorus -> Way Huge Supapuss Delay -> Boss RV-6 Reverb -> ZVex Super Hard On -> Lehle Little Dual Splitter into: A: Marshall Origin 20 // B: Fender Supersonic 22

Played with the amps in stereo nice and loud and it sounded huge.
