I'm not sure about this clone - I'd definitely agree with the out of control big muff. Videos of the real fuzz war sound better than this seems to. I need to play with it more by itself; try a few different amps/settings & guitars to figure it out. Right now I think the Balls Galaxian is a better bet - that's based on the Roland Bee Baa & does a similar thing, but somehow seems to have more clarity. Might have to do a shoot-out of those two!
Bring it on!
All this Boss stuff has had me twiddling with stuff I've let sit a bit too long. It's delightful.
I've learned I hate "loose" pedals, generally. If I have something not in a good spot on a board, I'm unlikely to use it as much. And I absolutely hate "borrowing" a pedal from a well-balanced rig, I get tweaky until it's back where it belongs.
And I don't wanna go buying more pedals just to fill out boards. I've got ENOUGH.
There are exceptions. A Fuzz Face, a Big Muff, a few other buzzes, etc.
But I've had a few "intentional" Boss Strays because they're good to be able to throw down before or after a board, or pair with something else loose like a Rat or NYC Big Muff. A DF-2, as a feedback generator first-in-chain. An RV-2 for pre-dirt wall of sound or end-of-board ambience baths. And a BF-2, because, well, my HF-2 is driving that spot for a while, and it's good to have a purple flanger to grab.
Pairing those with a DSD-2 (my second one is still in the mail, but it's gonna be the one to live on this little board), gave me a little setup that wildly exceeded my expectations.
DF-2 Super Feedbacker
BF-2 Flanger
DSD-2 Digital Sampler/Delay
RV-2 Digital Reverb
Basics, right? Gain-modulation-delay-reverb. Tried and true. Leaner than my usual boards, but what came out was top-tier. It sounded great, I got totally lost. Long Chip delay tone, that RV-2 plate setting, aw man it hit the spot. And, pretentiously, an all-'80s Boss Board.
But! There's a hidden layer of versatility- The DF-2 gives me the feedback/oscillator to play with, the flanger also pretty much has chorus and "extreme" settings in addition to the whoosh. The DSD-2 has that sequencing capability I've been banging on about lately.
This is a mighty little board.
