Re: BOSS HM-2
You guys really make me want to get one of these...I have a DS-1 which I never really liked too much for guitar, but it actually sounds good on drum machines(brings out the right overtones). A used HM-2 is pretty reasonably priced and even if I don't like it for guitar, I could always use another keyboard pedal...

I like the HM-2 lots, the eq-section is what really makes this pedal shine. I've got a fabtone too and while it covers similar ground, i think the HM-2 is better. I used to use a zoom ultra fuzz but that's also been relegated by the mighty HM-2

Re: BOSS HM-2
i'm obviously a huge MBV fan (my screen name) and I LOVE the HM-2, especially with a JM. My g/f and I both use them. It was my very first pedal when I was 14. I recently started using one and fell in love. In fact, I went Boss crazy a while back and now collect silver screw era pedals. here's some of my collection (still need an early CE-2):

That's a nice collection, although I don't think there ever was a Silver Screw BF-2. And the Silver Screw on the OD-1 looks a bit dodgy but it may just be the light.

The OD-1 is the earliest version, it has the rare 14-pin chip. I was offered $300 for this pedal when I listed it on ebay. I decided to end the auction and keep it. I bought it for $20 a month & a half ago!Tweez wrote: That's a nice collection, although I don't think there ever was a Silver Screw BF-2. The BF-2 is correct, it's from the first release in 1980. The Black Label has the "use a coin to open the battery compartment" as all silver-screw pedals do. You can also see by the box in the background, it has the little thumb cut-out like the ph-1 and ds-1 have. Minus the OD-1 (and CE-2), these are all Japanese Release only pedals. The booklets are in Japanese only. The other funny thing is, all 4 of the silver screws are different! You can kinda tell in the picture. I believe them all to be correct & original.

I think there were only 3 different types of silver screw, people use any old screws sometimes just to try and get people to buy them. www.bossarea.com is your best bet for boss knowledge.

Re: BOSS HM-2
No there are several models w/ silver screws. I go on bossarea all the time btw. The FIRST THREE Boss pedals to be *released* were the OD-1, the PH-1, and the SP-1 in 1977. Then came the CE-2, BF-2, DS-1, all of which had silver-screws. Silver-screws existed until 1980. Then there's the longer model numbers (some call them the 'long dash' models) and the text on the black label that mentions 'using a coin' to open the compartment is a dead giveawy. Trust me, i've done more homework on this than any normal person should haveTweez wrote: I think there were only 3 different types of silver screw, people use any old screws sometimes just to try and get people to buy them. www.bossarea.com is your best bet for boss knowledge.

I think he's referring to the types of screws. He's saying there are three different types of screws, not pedals.OffYourFace wrote:No there are several models w/ silver screws.
