Momentary kill switch pedal...

Post by zhivago » Sat Apr 04, 2020 2:38 am

So I am a bit bored, and full of confidence after my Memory Man switch repair :D

...I got to thinking...maybe I could make a kill switch pedal for stutter effects... :-/

I have a few bits and pieces in my parts box, but I am missing the switch...

Do you guys think that this one will work?

I want it to be non-latching, so I can great some crazy on-off sounds :)

They are push to make (aka normally open) so you should be good to go.

I've done this exact thing with a momentary switch. It worked for what it was supposed to do, but I didn't feel like it worked well for fast stuttery madness the way I wanted it to, almost like there was a latency issue that wasn't merely user error... Perhaps it was just the switch I used, though, and yours winds up working better! :)

Yeah, not sure that the foot can be moved fast enough for stutter effects ? ;)

Electro-Faustus Step Child

Stutter effect and a nice graphic. Hard to be that, even with a switch and an enclosure.

That said, I'd probably home-brew one myself as simple as it would be.

Many thanks for all your help, guys! 8)

I’ve always wanted to mod a tuner with a momentary switch, both so it can pull double duty as a stutter and because I’m an idiot who mistakenly steps on the tuner mid-song at least once a set and my board only has one row. :fp:

Congratulations! I love it when a plan comes together! Perhaps I’ll build a pedal during quarantine...

Hey thanks!

I've been looking at simple kits online...maybe I'll try an make something else...I have an SHO pcb board from Madbean that I bought probably 10 years ago...maybe I should get some parts and give it a go :)

The Dwarfcraft Memento is a programable kill switch pedal that lets you tap in your own patterns. You may be able to get one used.

Resurrecting this thread...might this be better implemented as an adapter at the guitar end of the cable? My finger is a bit faster than my foot.

I've got one on my Tele and use it quite a bit, but using a hand/finger for the killswitch limits what you can do with picking, strumming, or fretting. I like the idea if having both.

the guitorgan has this function. flip a switch to kill the signal & use a button to tap/hold to play. it only worked on the organ signal. for guitar you'd probably need a fancy sustain pickup.

also had a dunlop tremolo pedal in a wah type enclosure that was cool for the stuttery business. press from no effect to randon points at the fast end.
