EQD x DBA "Time Shadows" & ZVEX x Chase "Bliss Factory" The Pedal Movie Exclusive

These pedals were just released on Reverb, did anyone picked one up?
I got one of those Time Shadows one, just because I know that if I regret not buying it i'll end up buying premium. To be fair, I have no clue what to expect from this pedal but it sounds like something I'd enjoy.
The Bliss Factory sold out in an hour or so, it seems the Time Shadows will be sold out in the next 15 minutes. Pretty crazy.

And here was me hoping to eventually have an opinion on that pedal. Shoulda seen it coming in hindsight. I'm sure its going to be a greatly tweakable FF for the creative types.surfin_bird wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 12:48 pmThe Bliss Factory sold out in an hour or so, it seems the Time Shadows will be sold out in the next 15 minutes. I snagged the CB/Zvex Bliss Factory. Almost didn’t but the Knobs video swayed me. I’ve had a FF for 20 years and getting the Fat switches, presets, and ramping the oscillation part of the pedal was worth it for me. Frankly having a super stable preset then a super Theremin freak out preset is worth it...

Nice one. The extra control parameters looked super-useful. I should have anticipated they'd be a limited run. I've been wanting a FF for a while now and this looked like a great model to grab.deviantkirby wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 4:04 pmI snagged the CB/Zvex Bliss Factory. I guess the plot of the movie is how to make the same modulated reverb under 20 different names and charge $300 for it?

I got a Time Shadows too. The Chase Bliss/Zvex one was too expensive for me, but more than that I know that I don't really get too jazzed for those types of sounds. All Chase Bliss pedals scare me away with their excessive knobs and switches. I did have a hand-painted Fuzz Factory way back when, but that was before I figured out fuzz.
Any way, that Time Shadows pedal sounded way more interesting to me, and yeah, if I don't like it I know I won't lose any money.

Both sounded awesome to me, but I don't know if I'll try to get either. The Time Shadows was more interesting. EQD and DBA is a fantastic idea for a collaboration.

I was thinking the same thing, to the extent that I reckon I used to confuse them in my head a bit years back. I'm kinda surprised that nobody thought of getting them together before.Shadoweclipse13 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 8:36 pmEQD and DBA is a fantastic idea for a collaboration.

Listening to Jamie Stillman and Joel Korte in the Reverb video, it sounds like they kind of had, but they might just not have been thinking it was a serious possibility, or everyone was too busy. I for one would love to see more collaborations like this. Like Old Blood Noise Endeavors and Caroline or something.Veitchy wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 9:33 pmI was thinking the same thing, to the extent that I reckon I used to confuse them in my head a bit years back. Also, this just popped up on my YouTube feed. Haven't watched it yet, but thought it was relevant: Knobs - Bliss Factory & Time Shadows.

I said it somewhere else as well, but CBA had been teasing the "Bliss Factory" for so long that I kind of forgot that it hadn't come out yet. I'm expecting to see the first flipper-priced resale by this weekend... yawn... I'm over the hype cycle.

Re: EQD x DBA "Time Shadows" & ZVEX x Chase "Bliss Factory" The Pedal Movie Exclusive
I find it a bit annoying too, but for the most part I don't mind. I also like sneakers, and thankfully for my bank account and marriage, I don't really go for all those hype beast sneaker things, [but every now and again I kind of wish I had some disgusting amount of pocket money to buy something like these (some very expensive green Air Jordan 3s).]
Generally like most of the sneakers, the pedals aren't really my style. The collaboration hype pedals are interesting from one angle, and completely unnecessary from many others. It's a mixed blessing that all these builders have started to figure out how to make some money in the Instagram world of marketing. The hype is in the rarity and hipster-y connection. I haven't really heard any super-duper game changing effect.

I mean to each their own. Will I ever buy a $400 fuzz face? No. But I don't pass judgment on how people spend their money. Particularly hobby purchases. I do however pass some judgment on these companies for what I consider predatory pricing but maybe that's just me.

Re: EQD x DBA "Time Shadows" & ZVEX x Chase "Bliss Factory" The Pedal Movie Exclusive
I'm reacting negatively to the hype train to the point it makes me look at the pedals negatively even if the pedals are awesome.
The idea you need these for some reason and then getting upset cause they're limited or expensive turns me off.
Most of them will go on instagram boards and will they ever get used to produce some really important songs? Probably not, cause if you're clever you can do a lot of this stuff with the pedals you already had.
The Bliss Factory.. stack the Fuzzes you already have with some sort of modulation or filter pedals.
The DBA/EQD one.. it sounds like a Fuzz into a delay. You can get close to that with tons of other stuff. The demos for this one are really not inspiring.. just ambient fuzz into delay drones.
The Time Shadows.. once you realize it is basically the Hans Zimmer "BWAAAAMMMMM" movie sound effect will you ever be able to get that out of your head?
At some point the hype might lead to a backlash against pedals the same way Punk was a backlash against the overproduced wall of sound or grunge was a backlash against hair metal. I wonder if this could actually be so bad it tanks some of these builders.

I couldn't really see this backfiring against pedals on the whole, but against certain builders maybe. Thinking back to the DAWN OF BOUTIQUE days, there definitely was some "WTF, it's a Tube Screamer with an extra knob" reaction to $400 overdrives. That's before we even get into that K pedal and the ludicrous expense of the secondhand ones. It seems to go in cycles. I guess we're nearing a peak?

Maybe we're nearing a peak, maybe these just aren't even guitar pedals.
Chase Bliss stuff often seems way more targeted at synth guys who are using a programmable unit to control it.
I like to play the guitar, there's no way I'm buying some programmable pad and putting the guitar down, so the programmable stuff in the CBA pedals is not for me.
I'm a software engineer, if I want to program stuff I'll write my own software.. I've screwed around with that stuff on the side for my whole career.
