New fuzz pedall, which one would you buy?
Looking to ad a new fuzz pedall to my board. Don`t have the opportunity to test in my city. I`m looking at the Keely fuzz bender and the old blood noise endeavors Alpha Haunt. Which one would you choose? I own a EHX russian big muff and a DIY clone of fuzz factory allready.

Depends, what kind of fuzz sound are you chasing? I feel like knowing that makes these discussions a lot easier.

Tough one to answer without knowing what sound you're after. My personal recommendations are usually the DOD Carcosa for its versatility, the Fuzz War because it's just undeniable (if that's the sound you're going for), the Hoof for Big Muff style sounds, but there's a lot of different flavors to go for. Of those two, I'd probably go with the Alpha Haunt personally.

Since octave fuzzes are the best fuzzes, I would suggest a Tone Machine of some sort. I can recommend the Orange Fur Coat. Sounds superb, has the octave foot switchable and looks cool.

Buy a ProCo Rat II. It's a great fuzz when you want it to be - and a ripping distortion if you need that sort of blast.
- Plus its very different from your muff and fuzz factory pedals.
- And there are lots of good clones that are readily available that add some mods (switches that adjust clipping and that sort of thing) that some folks like as options.

+1. I only really just started listening closely to what Rats sound like. Turns out that a lot of the 'fuzz' sounds I had been looking for can be covered really nicely with a Rat of some vareity.del wrote: ↑Wed Jul 21, 2021 8:15 amBuy a ProCo Rat II. A Rat won’t do the crumbly or gated thing and responds in a very predictable way.
That said the average person in an audience doesn’t notice or care about those nuances, and when you use a Rat they can actually hear your guitar.

For me it was what I refer to internally as 'huge' sounds. More organic and less scooped than a Muff or harsh silicone fuzzes, but also more distorted and without the occasional thinness of Fuzzface style sounds.* I find they're perfect for very 3D sounds I tend to associate more with amp distortion than pedal sounds - something that sound like you're moving a lot of air.marqueemoon wrote: ↑Wed Jul 21, 2021 5:13 pmIndeed.Veitchy wrote: ↑Wed Jul 21, 2021 2:52 pm+1. *None of this is a knock against any of these circuits. They all have their good points, and depending on your style a FF could be one of the best always-on pedals you'll play. For the OP, I'd probably be more inclined towards the Fuzzbender - it looks pretty versatile and tweakable.

Its like...any of the above; yes. But which of about 10 varieties of 'fuzz' do you want and what isnt covered already?
Pristine Octave?
Clangy f**kd up octave?
Vintage torn speakery low gain mosrite thing?
Muff scooped type?
Wooly fuzz face?
Gate?
Glitch?
Synth saw wave sound?
Metal?
Pushed stacked overdrivey style?
ETC
I can vouch for a Rat though. Yet i can also vouch for replacing most its use with a hudson broadcast and a dba apocalypse. Im not selling it though, its flexibility is good across its gain range but maybe not the best at any one setting imo.

I still want a MKI swollen Pickle. But I guess that’s not what you need/want. Regret not buying one of those when they were plentiful.
I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

I'd vote for a Big Cheese clone. I got one a few months ago and it has very quickly become my favorite fuzz. A little sputtery, but not overly so (except for on the cheese setting), you can still kinda do chords on it, and it kicks ass for leads.
