I’m going to play devil’s advocate: my experience with the Sunface is that it’s a very nice fuzz, but not head-and-shoulders above the rest. I have the BC108 version.

However, send it into a treble booster, and you have instant cut and definition for weeks. Which is why this is so awesome:

I’m a recovering fuzz-purchasing addict, and although I don’t claim to have tried them all, my favourite is actually the relatively humble Boss Waza. If I had to choose a ‘desert island’ fuzz, that would be it.

What I'm reading is that I need to save up to eventually pay a visit to the analog man website. If I happen to leave with a Prince as well that's nobodies business.

I’ve had many, MANY fuzz boxes over the years and I have to say that AnalogMike really knows his way around a Fuzz Face. His builders put together some fantastic pedals. Their transistor selection process is second to none. I get a ton of use out of the several that I have.

I definitely agree that going into a treble booster takes it to the next level. The down-side could be a bit more noise, but that's only if you stop playing...but why would you want to stop playing?

Sure thing, if I ever fall out of love with it I will let you know. It is a high gain CV7003 one, so really rare to find. I managed to get one from the last batch that Mike made in 2023. I pulled the trigger at the right time (for once). The transistors were gone within a day, if I remember correctly.

the other thing is that i basically never run fuzz into a clean amp, either an overdriven amp or some sort of preamp/OD pedal. i think this helps the "good" frequencies remain at the fore and works well with the less-is-more attitude to fuzz settings as described above.

I got super lucky and built the best Fuzz Face I've ever had.
I prefer BC109s. They have the stability of BC108s but are less fizzy and have more sustain.

I had an old grey Crest Audio FF (bc109) that sounded amazing. It nailed that early John Squire Stone Roses sound. After regretting my choice to sell it, i bought another and it didn't sound the same. I was bummed so I decided to build one with a Pigeon FX board and a broken Dunlop FF I got for $40. It turned out to be my favorite FF of all time. I still have it.

Also, my TYM Reverse Big Muff is the best BM I've ever had. It's supposed to be based on the V6 ckt but it sounds way better than any V6 i've had.

The only other Fuzz I regret selling is my Arc Effects Big Green v1. It sat in a mix with ease. It didn't have a lot of gain but it was easy to boost it with something else.

Only concern is a lot of compression at mid gain or higher, to the point where chords have a tiny lag. Will play about with the trimpot later. Is that normal?

I just bought the Melxowtone off of Johnny. It arrived this morning and it rips.

Almost got excited that there were three Melxowtone owners here on OSG, but now kicking myself that I missed Johnny selling his. I wonder how consistent they all sound, or whether each one's unique.

That must be the most neatly printed AM pedal i’ve seen. Usually there is some degree of ink splodge or smudging going on. You sure it's not a Chinese knockoff? Haha

I can imagine how massive it sounds. I reckon Ge fuzzes really benefit from being played LOUD, whereas Si is more agreeable at home volumes. Please crank it up and enjoy the multi-dimensional texture

Which one is yours? All of them being different colours is both cool and irritating - the desire to track down a pink one, or the rainbow stripes, will be both ever present and likely unfulfillable.
