Need a better Tremelo pedal
I am slowly making my way through my pedal board and upgrading all the pedals that bug me.
Whenever possible I use my Fender amp tremolo but still
Need a tremolo pedal on my board.
I’ve got a Boss TR-2 but it has a slight volume drop that I find exasperating.
Can anyone recommend a good basic trem pedal for a vintage 1960s sound?
Thanks!

Demeter Tremulator
I am mainly using amp tremolo these days, but the Tremulator gets me about 95% of the way there when using my amp that doesn’t have trem.
Just a good sounding no-frills tremolo.

60s AMP style Tremolo?
BBE Tremor (two different settings to change between) - Blackface voiced. (There is a good looking version and a really ugly one).
And of course: Surfy Industries SurfyTrem - Harmonic Tremolo and Blackface Tremolo.
These two get me very close to my Bandmaster/Princeton Trem sound.

Re: Need a better Tremelo pedal
I love my Jam Chill, it's the closest I've found to the the bias vary tremolo on my old Bronco amp. It does darken the tone slightly but that's just part of its character in my opinion. I actually like the TR-2 quite a bit and I think the models built over the last decade or so address the old volume drop issue but don't quote me on that.
Jam's packaging and goodies are way over the top, imo, and I can't help but feel that a normal box and packaging would have dropped an easy $25 from the sale price.

I agree. Great pedals, over-packaged and arguably over-priced.
In Jam’s early days, pedals would ship in a plain brown box, which was fine.

If you're not looking for extras, the Basic Audio Throbby sounds just right.

The SurfyTrem by Surfy Industries. I have one and love it. It does the Brownface and Blackface trem. There's also a stereo version.

I've always liked my Strymon Flint for good solid tremolo sounds. A bit pricey, but it plays well with my other pedals.

Another vote for the Strymon Flint - that said, I know the TR2 can be modified to fix the volume loss.

Re: Need a better Tremelo pedal
If you're gigging, the TR-2 does just fine and no one would notice the volume drop (it's only. Very subtle but exacerbated by the actual tremolo effect). It's been a gigging staple for me for decades.
For home, I also recommend the Flint V2. Great reverbs and a bias trem (the best kind IMHO) that sounds scarily authentic. I can get it to match my VibroChamps trem almost perfectly.

Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

Re: Need a better Tremelo pedal
i also like the BBE a lot. the speed/rate controls are a little bit touchy - they have a WIDE range and i wished they could be dialled in more subtly. but no volume drop that i remember
i need to get the tremolo fixed in my amps

Re: Need a better Tremelo pedal
I ordered a Monk and like a day or two later they emailed me letting me know they were running behind and if I wanted a free t-shirt. Like a week later the pedal showed up t-shirt included.

I had a Mojo Hand Bayou that was quite nice, and setting the level high got a nice OD sound. Nowadays I use the built-in tremolo in my Peavey Delta Blues.
