Question for Boss SL-2 Slicer Users

Post by UlricvonCatalyst » Wed Jan 15, 2025 6:28 am

I'm somewhat interested in these pedals, and watched a couple of videos last night to see/hear what they can do. My takeaway was that they mostly sound very unnatural, very processed, in a way that's reminiscent of early pitch-shifters. Unfortunately neither of the videos I watched zeroed in on their tremolo potential, instead reeling off vaguely aceeeeid-like blips more than anything many guitar players who aren't Colin Angus out of them Shamen would hope to coax out of it.

So I'm wondering if anyone who owns one uses it primarily - or even supplementarily - as a tremolo effect, and could comment on how it sounds in that application.

i.e. Could it be considered a more versatile TR-2/PN-2, or is it strictly a gimmix box?

I'm in your position too.
I have my old PN-2 on my board and keep asking myself if replacing it with the slicer would be a wise move.

I have one and haven't really figured out a use for it yet. The controls are pretty complex so perhaps I haven't hit on a winning sound but relative to demos I heard before buying I'm currently underwhelmed.
