Oh wow, that's a great setup! It's funny, as I was driving home only an hour ago I was day dreaming about the sound I was getting at the weekend through my Bassman with a Sunface. It sounded awesome but when turned right up it was a bit too much and the amp was struggling to keep up. My daydreaming ended when I thought about using my TI Boost (Iommi sig treble booster) to push the amp whilst cutting the bass to help it out a bit. Good to know it works, that's my experimentation for the evening sorted, thanks! (sorry neighbours... )i love sharin foo wrote: ↑Fri Jan 26, 2024 6:20 pmI was messing around with the Bassman for a bit. I was like, damn, this thing is really lacking in the high end department... then realized I was plugged into the bass channel PAFs -> Sunface -> Beano -> Bassman = amazing!

Re: Setup of the day
Looks awesome! How is the sound working out? It’s really neat how just a slight change in bass frequencies can so greatly alter the way and amp responds. A booster after a fuzzbox (especially a Fuzz Face) is a beautiful thing. I will often even use it with just a minor boost because even then it does something special to the fuzz. It makes it bigger, yet more focused if that makes any sense. At least the way I run my stuff.

Re: Setup of the day
I found exactly that, a huge volume boost isn't required, just the trimming of the lower frequencies and the pleasing slight boost of the higher frequencies works perfectly to tame the HUGE character of the fuzz. As you say, it focuses the sound. I'm going to be recording soon and I am thinking of going right back to basics for it - guitar -> fuzz -> DMM -> treble booster -> Bassman. I like to run the Bassman hot (master volume mod) for natural overdrive at all times and then use the volume pot to alter the amount of drive. I'm really excited to try it out at proper volumes as it's such a departure from my usual setup of loud, clean Twin Reverb and my pedalboard doing all the work.i love sharin foo wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 5:59 pmLooks awesome! Every time I see my amp in your posts it makes me miss it, but also I'm very very happy you're enjoying it
A Jag into a Sunface into that amp is the same setup I used on all the choruses on my bands last record to fatten it all up. Glorious.

It's such a great thing, love it. Although now I've converted the other end of the attic to an office for doing my MSc it's quite distracting having this beast behind me

Re: Setup of the day
After extensive testing over the last few days, my gain stages for the Bassman are finalised, I think. Amp set to literally edge of breakup, as clean as it can be but definitely compressing so there's no huge volume boosts. The JAM Boomster can then dial the amp from clean to amp overdrive with the turn of the knob or an expression pedal which is yet to be decided (unity gain is when the knob is at zero which is handy). Boomster can also control the amount of gain out of the Filaments when that's on, ranging from a light crunch to flat out distortion. Sunface is the sunface, sounds awesome on its own and can be tamed by the Boomster with the toggle switch to stop it being TOO huge but also the Boomster can overdrive the amp at the same time for that nice smoothing that od does to a fuzz. Pretty chuffed with it actually.
Next is to incorporate delays; a JAM Delay Llama Xtreme and a big box DMM. I was hoping for a smaller board, but fuck it

Re: Setup of the day
You've got both? Maybe you could answer something I've been wondering about for a long time. I've always loved the sound of the vintage big box DMM, but don't want to mess with vintage power and honestly, as cool as it is, the big boxes are bigger than I want. I've always felt that the Delay Llama was meant to sound like a modern DMM. How do they compare?

Re: Setup of the day
Not much ever really changes on my rig apart from the guitar.
LP Custom > Korg Pitchblack > Analogman Sunface BART > Boss CH-1 > 1981 V1 Rat > 1984 whiteface Rat > 90s DMM > Strymon Flint > '65 VibroChamp.
Sometimes I'll throw a Superfuzz or Ampeg Scrambler up front off the board but I mostly just play it all.

Re: Setup of the day
I just set up the power supply and cabling for my compact board, but I don't have all the pedals at home, so the HM-2 and the DS-1 are just place holders for now. But it's kinda fun playing around with these.

Re: Setup of the day
I bought the Delay Llama Xtreme in the hope that it would be a good, pedal board friendly replacement for a DMM. I think you could get away with it for that, but it just doesn't sound the same (does anything!?) The Llama is a great analogue delay in it's own right, but it doesn't overdrive like a DMM (the llama clips out in a weird way like it's throttling back, hard to describe), and the modulation is symmetrical and repeatable whereas a DMM has a certain randomness/unevenness to it's modulation that is very musical.Shadoweclipse13 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2024 8:43 pmYou've got both? All the different modulations and the presets of the Llama are brilliant, especially the Xtreme mode where it shifts pitch and sequences, really cool. Also, the slapback out of it is just top notch. It may just be this particular unit though as I bought a normal Delay Llama thinking the slapback would be just as good and in a much smaller footprint but unfortunately the slap was lacking in top end compared to the dry signal
In short, Delay Llama Xtreme is great in its own right but nothing comes close to a DMM imo

Re: Setup of the day
Also, I power my DMM from my usual Truetone CS12 using a voltage doubler (from 12V to 24V) and then a polarity swapper, both included in the box I think.

It’s not cool or trendy, but DMM nano will probably do exactly what you need, all in a pedalboard friendly, 9V box. Just need to watch a few videos on how to dial in the classic sounds as the controls work slightly differently
I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

Re: Setup of the day
Anyone tried the DBA Echo Dream 2 in place of the old DMM's? I haven't played a DMM in years but the ED2 scratches all those itches for me in it's more subtle moments.

Re: Setup of the day
Respectfully disagree. I've tried them all and nothing is the same, no matter what settings. It's one of the few occasions in this industry where the hype is real and there really is no substitute unless you find all NOS components and build a 1:1 clone.sal paradise wrote: ↑Fri Feb 09, 2024 10:51 amIt’s not cool or trendy, but DMM nano will probably do exactly what you need, all in a pedalboard friendly, 9V box. There's reason why those of us with them don't often let them go.
