Re: Robert Smith tone
I'm a big Cure fan, so I decided to revive this thread as my first post!
Here are the settings for A Forest.
A Boss BF-2 Flanger (now replaced by the BF-3 but easy to find on the second hand market). The settings were manual 60%, Depth 75%, Rate 50% and Res 25%.
A Boss DD-3 Delay: all knobs more or less at 50%.
A Boss RV-3 Reverb (discontinued too and replaced by the RV-5): balance 25%, tone 30%, r.time 40%, mode 10.

The built-in chorus from the Roland JC120 was also used during the studio recording.

Just to repeat.. its JC-160 on a Forest(on the whole of 17 secs)...article has it wrong..probably just used the generic 'JC120' term. Flanger is an MXR.MazzyJaster wrote: ↑Mon Jul 27, 2020 9:52 amI'm a big Cure fan, so I decided to revive this thread as my first post!

Robert Smith used Storm effects and MXR up to about 83-4 and then swapped to Boss.. I've actually seen his Storm pedals in person so I can definitely confirm that.
Storm as far as I can tell is just another name for MXR...cant be 100% sure as I've never compared them and they are rare to find.

Re: Robert Smith tone
Close enough. I once played a Coron Blue Box clone and it was WAY better than the old MXR version.eggwheat wrote: ↑Wed Jul 29, 2020 7:25 am

These copies weren't really available in the US but more easily available in other countries, giving people a cheaper alternative to the MXR stuff.
The old Guyatone stuff is MXR copies as well.

Yep! He's got the 'tope of the line' models for guitar and bass. Two of each, bass amps for the Bass VI songs.dc wrote: ↑Wed Jul 29, 2020 3:27 pmlooks like he was using Cubes (!) for the big 40th Anniversary show:

I can't think of any combination more goth than necromancy and The Cure, and this thread has both.
