Anyone know what style of fuzz he's using for guitar? I was never any good at hearing a sound and going thats a muff, or thats a fuzz face. So any help is appreciated. Kicks in at :48

I've loved that song since I first heard it way back on the Empire Records soundtrack. Fucking awesome.
He uses a Dan Armstrong guitar in the video, but god knows what he used on the album. Definitely sounds like a fuzzface derivative though. I am also curious as to what it was, because to me it is the ideal fuzz tone.

An Expandora perhaps?

edit: I haven't seen that version of the video before.. weird. No Dan Armstrong in this version.

It's a B&M Champion Fuzz, which is essentially a re-badged Colorsound Jumbo Tonebender - very close to a Big Muff:

Thanks Horsey!
The mystery is solved! Now to get me a clone...

Any link to a schematic??? Maybe I can get Mike (madebymike pedals) to spin one up for me.

Not sure about a schematic, but I think Stomp Under Foot's Dirty Rooster is a fairly direct clone:

thanks. I'll look into finding one of them.
Hard finding anything where I currently live (newfoundland, an island off eastern Canada).
I have to order anything that isn't mxr, boss, fulltone, or bbe. Then if I don't like it I have to kijiji it and take the hit on cost. :/

They have a RAT named the SKINNER BOX. I have to buy one. My last name is Skinner and I am from B.F. Skinner's bloodline, so this is a must buy for me. SWEET.

That's awesome :) Matt at SUF is an excellent builder and a really nice guy to deal with. He loves the Rat and by all reports his Skinner Box is an excellent clone. And his Muffs are top class. Can't go wrong with his work.

I read somewhere recently that the fuzz on that song was a tonebender through a Mutron which was then DI'd into the desk, which was also overdriving the valve pre-amp section.

Best B&M fuzz clones out there:

Faustone Fuzz Unit

Sonic VI Champion Fuzz

I have the Faustone and a friend of mine has the Sonic VI. Same ground, both are excellent quality, I tend to prefer the Faustone though.

As per SUF pedals, I own 11 of them (nearly all Matt's muffs, a Mean Green Machine, a Screaming Panda, a Son of a Bee and a Skinner Box). As a RAT fan, I can teel that the Skinner Box is awesome.
You can't go wrong with SUF pedals, definitely.

I have a Faustone as well. Great pedal, but pricy. Did notice the builder has since added the two things I wish my pedal had: a 9 volt adaptor and an indicator light.
