There's a few. Shawn Pittman has a Jazzmaster he uses on occasion. Kid Andersen will pull out a Jazzmaster or Jaguar. The late Nick Curran used an SX Liquid/SJM for a European tour with the Fabulous Thunderbirds. Magic Slim & The Teardrops were Jazzmaster powered. I did a whole disc with a Squier Jazzmaster. Almost all my slide work is on a Jazzmaster these days. There's Muddy Waters.

For the record, which is really important on the internet, I totally know that there are TONS of people out there that have played, do play, and will play the blues with guitars other than your standard Fenders and Gibsons. Most people on OSG that have gravitated at one point or another to offsets know the deal.

Sounds great in jazz as well. John McLaughlin used either a DuoSonic II or a Mustang for Bitch's Brew by Miles Davis.
He says, he can't remember whether it had a vibrato or not, so it could have been either, as he owned one of each at the time.
I can't find any photos from that session to confirm which model it was.

Edit: Japanese SRV-esque legend Char used Mustangs exclusively for years, although he has used Strats as of late.

Came here to say this. The last mustang I had was great jazz tones through my Mesa amp.

I've never understood the assertion that any human being is "too big" to play whatever they desire on a 24" scale guitar.

The average human being is 5'6". You'd have to be 9'5" tall to have the same proportions on a 24" Mustang that an average human being has on a standard mandolin.

You'd have to be 10'2" to fit a Mustang with the same proportions as Chris Thile in relation to his mandolin or 8'10" to have the same proportions as Jake Shimabukuro does on his ukulele.

They both seem to manage despite their crippling gigantism.

People say Rickenbackers are no good for blues either, yet a whole bunch of blues dudes were using them in the 50s. Lennon was inspired by a guy who played a 330 Capri and combo 600.

I don't play blues, but I do play Mustangs, and they can do anything a guitar can do.

Here is me playing a ton of different styles on a Mustang. No wanking to see. Some nice original riffs though, and a bit of everything else.

Yeah, you can do anything on any guitar I'd imagine.

I mean, if I can't play a thing on a guitar, I can promise you there is a whole list of things to get through before we start even imagining that it's a limitation of the guitar itself.

Always great to see people showing what the Mustang can do, though. It's accepted by guitarists everywhere that the ES-335 is a "Swiss Army knife" that can "do it all from funk to jazz" or whatever.

You know... "Thanks for listening to my funk song, everyone. I will now play a blues song, then a jazz song, and I thought we could wrap it up with some Americana."

But anyway the ES-335 is a versatile guitar I'm learning, but it really gets a lot of credit for versatility that the Mustang doesn't get, and the Mustang is a great sounding and very good guitar itself.

Thanks, Larry. Means a lot. I love all my Mustangs and all the past ones. Will always have at least one. Jazzmaster is top dog overall, but I don't really use them much for a while now.

Have yet to try a Mustang, played a Mustang bass a long time ago. You sound good, like yourself I imagine .
