Mark who? How good is Michael Lemmo!?

Post by PorkyPrimeCut » Sat Apr 13, 2019 11:50 pm

After less than a month behind the camera Michael Lemmo seems to be really making Guitar Of The Day his own. What he may be lacking in succinct, historical knowledge he's making up for threefold with actual playing technique. Astonishingly good stuff!

The introduction of a looper has been a masterstroke. It seems to loosen him up, letting him settle quickly into a groove & away he goes. Also, I notice he's tailing off with a little background loop during his final round-up which is a really nice, quite pro feeling touch.

I really thought GOTD had jumped the shark, considering Mark Agnesi as irreplaceable, but I don't miss him one bit!

I've been watching lemmo's videos on cheap(er) guitars at normans for a while, he's in an absolute class of his own and a huge improvement over mark from a playing perspective.

I thought he had fucking delay on when I first heard this.

Dang! I still think Stratacoustics suck but that video made me think Stratacoustics may be fine and that I may be the problem.

The dude is truly gifted. I really liked Mark Agnesi and he could play a little bit of everything, but Michael's just somehing else, man

I've have to say. Mark can't play. Lemmo CAN. MA knows his vintage for sure and is a decent enough a player, but i always turned off when he went to demo. I don't care to hear him hack through covers. ML's playing is really inventive and original and that adds so much value to the content. It also gives me a much better idea of what the guitars sound like.

A little bit unfair but I understand where you're coming from.

Pretty amazing 63 CAR jag with matching headstock and gold hardware ...

And some nice wear instead of the soul-less, never-been-played, collector-grade stuff Norm often has. Plus Lemmo's cool eclectic playing of some classics.

Agreed, although it got a bit too close to elevator music for most of the last 2 songs.
Pity he didn't blast out the ...Teen Spirit chorus & them smash the guitar & amp up! ;D

Lemmo is definitely a great replacement, although I preferred Mark's choice of guitars overall.

My only criticism of Lemmo is that the demo parts feel a bit too long at times.

Still, undeniably a great player and I really like his original tunes. :)

Van Halen on a 1959 Jazzmaster. Genius!!

How can anyone not love the tone of these things?

Yeah, he's a very talented player, and I like that he works up his own original compositions for some of the things that I've seen. More inspiring to me than most things I see regarding guitars on the internet.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Agreed, Lemmo is great. He made the transition look easy.
