Fun performance from the Bats

Post by Larry Mal » Thu Apr 02, 2020 11:42 am

I always like the Bats.

They were playing up in Chicago some years ago, me and Mrs. Larry were going to go but for some reason it didn't happen. I should have made more effort.

I realize when I listen to them what a tremendous musician their bass player Paul Kean is. He's worth the cost of admission alone.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Daddy’s Highway is a good record. When I first met lady Shadowplay I remember making her a ‘Driving’ mixtape with North by North on it.

Yeah, that's how I came to notice that live performance, I love North by North and was listening to it last night.

Why not link to that- it's an amazing song.

And the bass playing is fantastic.

I love The Bats too, and totally agree about Paul Kean's bass playing. Great band situation for them, they have that familiarity and vibe that comes of having been playing together for so long now, and can all go off and do their own things and then get back together and crank out another album just bursting with songs.

I could listen to Daddy’s Highway all day, and yeah, North by North is perfect.

The Bats are great but I don't think they have matured musically as well as The Chills, who's last couple of albums have been as great as their peak.
North by North though is a classic, I remember first hearing it on Rockarena, which was the oracle of all things interesting in music here in Australia in the early to mid 80s.

I like both bands, gonna have to go through some of the recent Chills.

Man that's beautiful. I could listen to them all day long. Made Up In Blue is a stellar tune as well. So clean and simple yet incredible.

The Bats' 2011 LP, Free All The Monsters, is one of their best.

My favourite song is probably Jetsam on Fear of God. Such a great band !
