Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Fun stuff. Good enough that I went back and watched it from the start. Really good even if I only have a cursory knowledge of Weezer. I dig this guy's presenting style.

Yeah I saw this the other day, usually I dislike these kinds of videos but I'm glad I took a chance on it.

It doesn't take 30 minutes to explain why Beverly Hills sucks.

No, it doesn't, but he tells a great story there. He's very talented, it's funny and sentimental... I hope to see some more from this guy.

I took the time to watch this whole thing. I share a lot with this guy, Blue Album and Pinkerton were huge to me and I also bought all the b-sides, downloaded live songs etc. I was crushed when Weezer became terrible.

Also gave him a thumbs up for being a local guy.

I watched the whole thing and the context is relevant, but yes it’s a terrible song.

As a fan of the s/t Stone Roses debut and b-sides of that era I definitely get the conflicted feelings that happen when a band you loved in your formative years puts out a steaming turd (Second Coming) and you try really hard to find something good in it.

I remember discussing Green Album and Malidroit on Weezer forums when I was like 14. I seriously think Green Album could be a great album with some changes to the production and guitar solos. I was convinced their next album would be a return to form but couldn't be more wrong. Once Rivers got all that Make Believe money, Weezer was never coming back.

See, I never was a fan of Weezer to start with, so I have no skin in this game. I only really cared because there's that new Van Weezer album out, which is dreadful from what I can tell, but anyway someone linked to that "What Makes This Song Stink" video and I thought that was great.

that was great.

as someone who came around to weezer very late, i think they did legitimately get worse (much worse)... but i also just listened to the blue album all the way through for the first time a few weeks ago, and that's a pretty rough album... the hits are great, but there isn't much else there.

the rentals, however, are still great.

Blasphemy. There is no filler on The Blue Album.

Blue album was my soundtrack through middle school. Basically everything this guy talked about was my experience. Also, did I just watch 30 mins to just say the music sucked ?

I also think Weezer started to suck when Rivers gained some confidence. Like he went from Pinkerton to "I am the greatest man that ever lived." He used to not speak at concerts as he was too shy. So I guess good for him that he has more self confidence but bad for lyrics.

Jesus, what a fun video. This is exactly up my alley. Larry knows this already, but I'm doing a graduate level music production analysis class right now and I really appreciate the approach this guy used. Moving guitar solos, melodies, and lyrics between that godawful song and other, much better Weezer and non-Weezer tracks was a much more entertaining way to present the analysis compared to just talking about it or isolating and dissecting elements from the song itself.

It's literally heartbreaking to compare individual elements between El Scorcho and Beverly Hills. Sticking some of the best and worst work they've ever done next to each other when they share the same chord progression like that...oof. Harsh reality check for someone like me, who had managed to willfully forget that Weezer had released most of the albums they've released.

I will say my standard line though, which is that "anybody who can make a living making music has my respect, no matter what that music sounds like." I hope they're happy writing and playing (and getting paid for) that shitty music, and that they have fans who are enjoying it.
