Tom Morrello....what say yee? Yeah or Nay
I always liked his creative sounds, and he can shred when he wants....I know RATM gets no love here. I was not an Audioslave fan though.
I do love his acoustic folk stuff. The Night Watchman....really good, and Tom has a decent singing voice. So, I guess he gets a yeah. Plus he went to Harvard, so the guy is smart. I just thought he was very creative and a fun player.
What do you all think??? I think he also lives in Orange County, CA.

I love RATM and Audioslave's debut.
Weird that he lives in the land that gave us Reagan / Reagan Republicans and is a HOA in county form.

Massively innovative guitarist and the first and second RATM albums are bangers. After that, I am out.

Tom's an insanely good guitarist and I can see a wave of new guitarists inspired by the kind of stuff he did emerging eventually. I love a lot of RATM's output also.

I sometimes like his playing more in theory than in practice. Still I have respect for the guy and I’m glad he’s around doing his thing.

I went to a play through of the atlas underground a couple of years ago. He had some of his most iconic gear, including his jcm800. And Bush Hall is one of my favourite venues.
There was an interview, then he played loads of famous riffs, showed off a bit & then he played along live to his weird dance music crossover album. Nice dude, massive ego.
I also bought the book cos it had some photos of his guitars. And then I bought his more recent book cos it had some photos of his guitars.
I met him at Brixton Academy during the Evil Empire tour. He chatted to me, a 12 year old kid, for about 10mins. He wouldn’t give me his cap though.
Was lucky to get a ticket to the Finsbury Park show in 2010.
Both times still stand out as some of the best gigs I’ve seen
I’m not a super fan, but always liked Tom Morello.

I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

I‘m glad to have seen RATM in 2008 in Austria on a festival (I think it‘s still their only live appearance in Austria so far - there would have been a show in 2020 - but it was postponed and also hugely expansive (like 130-250€) and they earned a lot of criticism for that)! Was a fan back then... and I also love Audioslave. Love his style and approach to sound(s). Smart and educated guy too.
Haven‘t listened to any of his solo stuff in years though...

Re: Tom Morrello....what say yee? Yeah or Nay
fun fact, i made a youtube account back in the day to watch a video of tom morrello talking about his pedalboard.
so i like rage against the machine but i didn't feel tom was fully used in rage. like his guitar parts were usually super creative BUT a lot of the songs felt the same. audioslave felt like they had more "songs" in them. not saying rage didn't. his solo stuff is pretty cool. my dad is a big fan of it.
btw anyone seen the punk rock mba video about rage? i think it's really interesting. tbh i think most of finn's video's are. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3hX92mhMuA
also, because i may never get another chance to post these anywhere on here ever again.

Re: Tom Morrello....what say yee? Yeah or Nay
There was a time when I respected his chops, but these days they're not enough to keep me from wishing he'd fall down a manhole.
The guy loves to remind the world that he was an honors student in PolySci at Harvard. Like, at every possible chance. And it's pretty funny to see a Marxist need so badly to be validated as an elite. There was the time when he famously got kicked out of line at the 5 point cafe in Seattle after demanding to cut the line and be given a private room... which they don't have. But, you know, Alger Hiss pulled the "I went to Harvard" thing in court on the prosecutor (Richard Nixon), whom he condescendingly pointed out had "matriculated to Whittier". So it's all kinda part of the deal, I guess.
Ultimately, though, it's his endless shilling for left wing authoritarians present and past, no matter how evil, that makes me wish Morello would fuck off and go away once and for all. I never liked RATM, not in the least bit. I saw them described once as "Limp Bizkit for commies", and really that's all that needs to be said.

One of my favourite Tom Scharpling bits is always referring to RATM as “Sony recording artists Rage Against the Machine”.
I have a lot more room in my brain/heart for people liking what they like as I barrel toward 40 (15 years of being a public school teacher wearing me down) and there’s no doubt Tom can shred, but RATM is a pretty hard pass for me. Haven’t listened to his other groups.
