Nevermind was a pivotal album to me because it made the guitar an actual accessible instrument instead of this forboding thing I'd "never figure out" that I wanted so badly to play but my preference for 80's rock prior to that put the guitar so far out of my reach skill-wise I had no hope of ever eeking out anything remotely close.

Then I got into Nirvana, then I got guitar lessons, then I learned Come AS You Are - I still remember where I came from.

But today, I hardly listen to Nirvana at all, TBH, if I'm looking for music that I can associate with on the "dark" path, it's usually the Chameleons or The Sound these days, or more often than not my own stuff.

oh i wanted to bring something up. so a few weeks ago, i seen beabadoobee. there was a pretty young band opening (oldest member looked like they were maybe 19) they added 2 covers to their set. breed - nirvana and say it aint so - weezer. i'm kinda shocked how this fairly young audience was into a song released 30 years ago, so i guess it still has cultural currency with young people.

I see kids wearing Nirvana t-shirts all the time here in Germany.

I'm sure there'll always be a subculture of angsty teenagers who idolise Kurt Cobain & grow to love the music he produced with Nirvana.

I saw a school kid wearing an In Utero jumper last year. Quick calculations got me to realise that Nirvana are as old for that kid as the Beatles were for me when I was listening to them as a 13 year old in the 90s 😬😬😬
I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

i think it's natural for a lot of younger folk to look back on the music of previous generations if they don't find much that resonates with them. i've got to say, part of me thinks the reason is so little "rock" music crossing over into the mainstream except artists from 15+ years ago. granted, i do think it's a bit depressing that it's the case.

one band i'm glad is still popular with young people is actually my chemical romance. i'll admit they were one of those bands i went from loving to hating and back to loving again. but it's kinda sad that a lot of the rock bands/artists that have been breaking through have came from other genres and basically have to be escorted into the rock industry from the old guard (looking at you MGK)

I don't think much has changed.

Same as kids wearing Led Zeppelin t-shirts when I was at school ('90s).
