That reminds me of the Pale Saints.
Pale Saints - Time Thief
They're more dream pop or shoegaze than jangle pop, but there are elements of all that in their music.

Hahhaha, I imagine dolewave is the Normcore of UK/AUS.Gavanti wrote: ↑Tue Nov 30, 2021 7:07 amIt's funny—I've had several occasions where I've played "North by North" and someone has randomly declared that this was their absolute favorite song but they thought no one else knew The Bats. That bass line is unreal good.stevejamsecono wrote: ↑Mon Nov 29, 2021 8:07 pmThey seem to get short shrift compared to the other Flying Nun bands for sure. I feel like most people go for the Clean, Chills, or Verlaines first.marqueemoon wrote: ↑Mon Nov 29, 2021 7:58 pmReally digging The Bats so far. That’s right up my alley for sure. I like the bass playing. Not sure why that’s so often overlooked in this kind of music.
I heard The Goon Sax recently and some songs reminded me of 80's NZ/Australian bands (the guitarist/singer is the son of one of the Go-Betweens). I had no idea dolewave, with which they've been associated, was a thing. I suspect someone here could jump in with more useful info about it, and from the playlists I heard, it sounds like (as with most genre labels) it groups a lot of bands that are more different than alike, but some playlists turned up bands with a similar jangle and drive to The Bats and The Clean, so that might be a rabbit hole to go down
The Connells and Guadalcanal Diary? Maybe less upbeat than what you're looking for but also jangly college rock from that era. Some Paisley Underground stuff like True West and The Three O'Clock might also work.
Also those first few Bangles releases (i.e. the Bangs EP through All Over the Place) are pretty fun jangily garage stuff too. Really underrated, imo.

Mary-Go-Round from Sweden. I’m afraid Spotify has mixed up and put another MGR on the same page. But here are two songs We made.

Leeds, eh? I'm a big Red Lorry Yellow Lorry fan. And, if I'm not mistaken, The Mekons and The Wedding Present are from Leeds too. And, of course, Gang of Four!PorkyPrimeCut wrote: ↑Tue Nov 30, 2021 11:38 amTakes me back!! Woah, this is great!!
Kinda strange too as it has that "twee" vibe but also a curiously Love (Arthur Lee) feel to it.

I'd completely forgotten about Red Lorry Yellow Lorry so thank's for that gig link. Decent sound quality too.

I know you were looking for older stuff but Sunny Sunday Afternoon by Youngteam is worth a shout. I love this track!
If you know the band this is kind of a one-off. They usually have a guy singing..

Twee ?
HEAVENLY - Our Love Is Heavenly
If this what you are after, try fossicking through the Elafant records back catalogue, particularly the older stuff.
