Revisited Garbage for the first time since my early teens (when they were in heavy rotation on MTV in the late 90s). I was too anal about anything popular then, but man. I’m really into them now. A perfect blend of pop and alt-rock and the songs are so catchy (those hooks and bridges, etc). Gotta add them to my list.

Top 3:
1. Fleetwood Mac
2. Within Temptation
3. Nightwish
Honourable mention for Pixies - I love them, but they don't think really count given that Kim Deal only sings a minority of songs.
Nobody particularly obscure on that list, but I like what I like!
Edit: a very OSG one that I'm surprised hasn't been mentioned yet (unless I've missed it): Warpaint. They've got some really cool looking Jaguars and Mustangs.

Re: Fleetwood Mac, yes Stevie is rightfully the focus, BUT IMO Christine is right up there too. Many of her songs are my favorites. She tended to fly "under the radar" being behind the keyboards. I should add "Songbird" to the thread of songs that make me cry! It makes me teary eyed.Stephen_42 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 5:30 pmTop 3:

Re: What are your top 3 (5, 10, whatever) bands fronted by women?
Fronted? As in lead singer. Then there can only be one trinity for me...
The Banshees
Blondie
The Pretenders
That said, most of the music I've bought over the years and particularly in recent years has been either m/f (sometimes husband/wife) duos or bands where gender isn't really a big deal, where woman are represented as much as men, or all female bands. Not bought much by bands with men only.
Hands Off Gretel (Lauren Tate is a force of nature)
First Aid Kit
Piroshka
Savages
Raveonettes
Brimheim
The Courettes
Nelson Can
Desperate Journalist
Garbage
PJ Harvey (yes I would call this a band)
Dream Wife
PINS
The Lovely Eggs
Kaelan Mikla
Evi Vine
The Kills
Goldray
Elastica
Still Corners
The Banshees
Blondie
The Pretenders

I was down with Camp Cope until I went to see them and they spent a fair chunk of the between-song talking straight up insulting or hating on +70% of the (paying) audience purely because they were male. I've been going to Riot Grrrl and feminist-led shows for 25 years but they were more disrespectful than anything I'd seen/heard before. Can't get past their shitty attitudes now so took them out of rotation.

Ah, really? That's disappointing. Only seen them once touring the first album but there wasn't much of that. Second album seemed very samey too.johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Thu Sep 08, 2022 9:33 amI was down with Camp Cope until I went to see them and they spent a fair chunk of the between-song talking straight up insulting or hating on +70% of the (paying) audience purely because they were male. Shame because I think the new album is awesome. But then all the songs are probably about why people like me are dickheads.
They’re free to rage how they like. I love how bands like Haim, The Staves & The Big Moon really own their femininity in an inclusive way- fuck the haters, but anyone can join in fucking the haters with them.
I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?
