Wednesday should appeal to a few here.
Wednesday - Bull Believer (Official Video).
Worth the full 8 minutes.
I was fortunate enough to catch them live, the above ^ was performed just as good if not better than the studio version.
They also veer into less abrasive indie/country territory
Wednesday - Chosen to Deserve (Official Video)

"I don't know why we asked him to join the band 'cause the rest of us don't like country music all that much; we just like Graham Lee."

Not a band (yet, I don’t think?) but I heard a kid’s joke today and thought it was a great name for a non-binary band: Bad Rainbow.s_mcsleazy wrote: ↑Tue Aug 20, 2024 10:27 amso i feel on OSG, we often get bogged down in the past so i thought it might be fun to talk about some more recent (last 7 years or so) are ya'll into.
gudgeon best way to describe this band is jesus lizard if they were the innsmouth house band.
spanish love songs some earnest as fuck modern punk.
l.s. dunes kinda feels like cheating with this one because it's basically a supergroup of bands from the 00's but fuck it, still great post-hardcore.
your arms are my cocoon a love letter to 90's emo/screamo. sadly missed my chance to see them recently.
coilguns thank you johnny for getting me into this band. just really solid post-hardcore with an interesting edge.
pom pom squad cute gay cheerleader alt rock. if that's not enough to sell you on them, i dunno how else i can.

New Clairo record slaps. Great 70's inspired plastic soul (did I use that term right)?
New(ish) Mk.Gee record is full offset goodness too.

That’s a good description. I’ve given it a few plays and it hasn’t really connected for me, but it’s definitely a vibe, and well done.eggo_princess wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 10:18 amNew Clairo record slaps. Great 70's inspired plastic soul (did I use that term right)?

Not a new band, but relatively new to me:
METZ - a ridiculously good noisy 3-piece band from Ottawa/Toronto. Worth checking out, if you like noisy alt-rock.
METZ - A Boat to Drown In
METZ - Entwined (Street Light Buzz) live on KEXP
METZ - Wet Blanket

For me it’s not super catchy, and while it is a definite vibe the lyrics and songwriting just don’t really grab me.eggo_princess wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2024 4:17 amim fully pilled on her, so biased, but curious as to what hasnt clicked for you?marqueemoon wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 12:23 pmThat’s a good description. My own listening is all over the map lately. Woodland by Gillian Welch and David Rawlings has been in heavy rotation, but I’ve also been enjoying the silly ear candy of the new Sabrina Carpenter and binging American Analog Set and listening to things I’ve for whatever reason not gotten around to listening to before like D’Angelo’s Voodoo.

Great new record from Nilüfer Yanya this week, a bit low-key compared to the last album but still full of wonderful driving guitar lines.

Glad to hear shes making music, her early stuff was great but then seemed to veer into mass produced indie as she blew up. Still an underrated guitar player with a unique style IMO.MattK wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2024 1:13 pmGreat new record from Nilüfer Yanya this week, a bit low-key compared to the last album but still full of wonderful driving guitar lines.

The most recent band I got turned onto was Judy and the Jerks.
I sort of loved that they sounded exactly as you'd imagine they would from their name: chaotic LA-style hardcore with a female vocalist.

I really like Being Dead, their album from last year was really good (catchy/lofi/simple yet not so simple/full of unexpected turns...) and the new one is just there, ready to take a spin on my turntable... I will play it tonight as I put the freshly arrived Staytrem bridge on my trusty Jazzmaster

Interesting recent “Rig Rundown” for King Gizzard.
I’m not into everything these guys have done, but I love their attitude. Makes me proud to be an Aussie!
