Yes, October 27 (as I said up there ^)
Really looking forward to seeing it, especially on the big screen at a real cinema.

I love Rowland's work. His solo work is genius, and I don't know how anyone can not respect him for being one of the only guitarists that could have sounded right with Nick Cave in the Birthday party.

Re: Rowland S. Howard
I saw the Autoluminescent film on Sunday night - highly recommended, lots of great footage, and brilliant seeing Rowland singing 'Shivers' with Nick Cave playing guitar (his Ibanez? Explorer copy) as the Boys Next Door. He obviously touched a lot of people personally (as well as musically obviously) in his all-too-brief life.
For .au readers it's still on at Palace Cinemas http://www.palacecinemas.com.au/movies/autoluminescent/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - not sure if it's being shown anywhere else.

Dang! I just missed it in my area last weekend.andy_tchp wrote:I saw the Autoluminescent film on Sunday night - highly recommended, lots of great footage, and brilliant seeing Rowland singing 'Shivers' with Nick Cave playing guitar (his Ibanez? That guitar (the only other one he ever played) was indeed an Ibanez, but it was a reverse body Firebird, I ended up with it for a year or two. He got rid of it because it wasn't treble-y enough, (it had the original mini humbuckers in it) I re'wired the p/ups with a series/parallel switch each and he was amazed at how much brighter it was with the coils in parallel. (I sold it to a friend to buy a Burns Bison.)
Cheers, Steve
It don't mean a thang if it ain't got that twang!

Re: Rowland S. Howard
Good thread... RSH was a big influence on me picking up the guitar and playing offset Fenders. Great songwriter and singer too. Only saw him live once, with These Immortal Souls in 1987. Me being 17 years old and in total awe. It was a fantastic gig.
There's a lot of footage from his funeral at youtube. His Jaguar was up there with the coffin in the centre of the church or chapel, but at the end when the coffin is taken out, it is gone. I wonder if he was buried with it. Seems appropriate...

FYI for the non-Australian fans out there, you can pre-order the Autoluminescent DVD from JB Hi-Fi:

Re: Rowland S. Howard
i was once in the live band for a guy named Hank El Diablo, who is very much influenced by nick cave. ok, he ripped him off. i'd always joke that we were a bad seeds tribute group. there was a song he had us play where i'd basically torture a guitar to get as much crazy sound as possible. when it came time to play the song during my last show for him, i used a guitar i had with a microphonic pickup where i could scream into it like isaac brock from modest mouse and started singing the chorus to blundertown. i think he thought it was great at first, but i guess he got mad as i kept doing it for about a minute and he cut the song short.
