Ryan Adams...

Anyone here like Ryan Adams? I'm a pretty big fan. I love how diverse he can be. He recently put about 12 albums on his site to listen to. They range from hip hop to fast punk to goth stuff. He's a great songwriter and really prolific. He can pretty much do whatever he wants with his voice as well.

I got into him through my Dad, who liked him before all this hipster bullshit fanbase (not accusing you guys, but, you know). All his albums, particularly Demolition and Gold get regular play in our house

I didn't really know hipsters were into him. I've never met anyone else that likes him actually.

I wish he'd do more rock stuff, stuff like Nuclear, Starting to Hurt and So Alive are great.

I thought Love Is Hell sounded amazing too.

I am a huge Ryan Adams fan. I had heard him in Whiskeytown, and then with Gold, but Demolition was the first cd of his that I got. "She's Playing Hearts" is my favorite song of his. Most people I know who like him are Indie Rock college aged kids. I did get my fiance to love his music, too. She went from really disliking the music to really wanting to go see him live.

Anyone see his Gap commercial where he's playing that awesome natural colored Tele Custom? I LOVED that commercial.

'Cause Sleater Kinney certainly never had a "hipster bullshit fanbase."

On the subject of Mr. Adams, I like some of his songs and hate others.  He writes good "head-nodders."  I think he could use a little self-editing, mostly.  The man is too prolific for his own good.

I love him. Though I like his Whiskeytown and "Heartbreaker" era more than others, I still generally like all of his music.

I am a HUGE Adams fan and have seen him live a few times. While I do love Whiskeytown, Heartbreaker, etc., i think his best albums are the two with the Cardinals. (Cold Roses, Jacksonville City Nights) They are instant classics and every song is fantastic. As for the self editing i heard him on NPR and he was asked how many songs he wrote for the three '05 albums (CR, JCN, and 29 about 45 songs total)....his 'conservative' answer was 75 or 80.

Ryan Adams is such a great singer considering he's a drunk and smokes like crazy.

There's a clip of him doing So Alive on Letterman and he does the Chorus amazing. It's so hard to shout and sing like that and he nails it so well.

I always saw rock and roll as his "pastiche" album - most of the tracks on it are conscious efforts at ripping off other peoples' sounds - like "so alive" being something of a U2 pastiche.

"Gold" is amazing, though.

Apparently he wrote Love is Hell and his record label didn't like it; they thought it was too dark. They wanted something marketable, so Ryan came back to them two weeks later with Rock and Roll. He also said that he did all the guitars on the album, because "only [he] knew what they sounded like in [his] head."

i admit, i got into him only after phil lesh & friends started playing with him & covering some of his songs (let it ride, magnolia mountain), and i really dig cold roses, but havent been able to get through any other albums. cold roses, every single song is great. found the rest of his stuff i listened to boring.
heard someone call him "a poor mans jeff tweedy". a bit hard, and i'm sure plenty would call tweedy a poor mans ryan adams but me, i'll take tweedy
