Nube here making my first post..

N yup,Im having a whinge.

Bought a neck off Stratosphere - NEW FENDER AMERICAN 62 JAZZMASTER NECK -

States FSR in add.. Soon as I got it out the box I thought there was sumat up..

The rosewood board in the picture was dark and the one I got was streaky like zebra hide?

Anyhow,I proceeded to slap the thing on my 65 reish jazzy..Popped tuners on softened edges of nut and quick set up.

Staight away im thinking somat dont feel right wi this so thought id surf net for any comments regarding this particular model..

Couldnt find a thing? Im thinking what have I got here? I digs out my radius gauges and pop the 7.25 on the fret board..???

Dont Fit??? The radius on this thing is 9.5

Can someone put me right here.. To my knowledge there aint been a 62 USA reish of any kind that dont have a 7.25 Neck.

And yes..The advert states 7.25.

They are still selling these and I thought id give you the heads up just in case anyone was eyeing one up.

Iv not had a reply off them yet but but ill be back with the full story..

Nah, unless he's moved as the language used seems more like UK (as his location claims).

Welcome to the forums anyways...how much did you get charged after import and TAX, etc? I often end up on Stratosphere, but figure that by the time I've paid the extras, it won't be the deal it seems at first. I end up buying MIM necks or whatever from UK suppliers instead.

I was at a winery in Tuscany and a couple walked in and I had them pegged as from New Jersey. Then the guy was telling me how they stop at every Harley Davidson store they see in Europe and buy a shirt, and I was like definitely NJ, then the guy started chugging wine, getting loud and knocking wine bottles off the wall. He was from Jersey. :D

'Thin Skin' models had a 9.5" radius and different fret profile.

.

"FSR" is Fender Special Run. ... ordered by one or the other of the retailers (Guitar Center, Sweetwater, etc) to whatever special design they want and think will sell the best.

9.5in fretboard radius is the modern Strat/JM/Tele/etc/etc design. Only those trying to be early 60s chase the 7.25in radius. The 7.25in radius practically died out as causing note choke-out on string bends .. .until Mayer convinced PRS to make the Silver Sky 7.25in to get as close a copy to his 62/63 Strat as they could without Fender taking them to court. Then 7.25in became trendy like a couple years back the 7/8/9 string guitars were trendy everywhere and you don't see them any more. 7.25in "this too shall pass".

.

Up date

Thanks for the info on dealer special runs

I have since tracked down the model "I THINK " is the donour..

A special run 62 on daves guitars.

Exact same spec - colour - radius

So it boils down to miss advertising on Stratospheres part.

Yup Taxes/Duties sting £132

I've been playing my JV Squier Strat for 38 years with a 7.25" radius. It wasn't bought because 'it was trendy' as back then I had no clue about radius, I just wanted a Strat. I've never had issues with chocking out on bends either, even after I read on the internet that I should. ;)

Of course I play 9.5" radius guitars and I have some 12" radius too; variety it good and helps my old hands to keep going. :)

They have now corrected the mistake on their Add.

You are welcome STRAtosphere......

THINK NOTHING OF IT........

Had no apology or thanks for pointing this mistake out from STRAtosphere.

For anyone who fancies one of these necks..

It has medium jumbo frets.

Update

strATRAtosphere initially declined to send a return postage label,

I then offered a compromise..A partial refund to pay for a bridge with correct radius (To replace my fixed radius Staytrem) so the neck would be compatible with my guitar.

Nothing....

They have since Forwarded funds to my paypal for my postage to return for a full refund...

The communication has been like pulling teeth.

Wonder if I would have got a reply at all if I hadnt gone through Ebay.

No admition of liability- apology for the miss listing of the product Or thanks for pointing this out! They have updated advert now.

Warning for any UK buyers - Any taxes and dutes (mine were £132) that need refunding are not the sellers responsibility.

You must upload a C&E1179 form/forms from H.M.C. Hey dont worry,only 4 of em!!

My 2 cents... There are many great Suppliers of parts/guitars in the USA with fantastic customer service.

stratosphere AINT one of em.

Thanks for the info about import taxes and charges; everytime I'm looking for something it seems to end up being available and apparently cheaper from the USA. Once you add those sort of charges on and the hassle like in your case, it doesn't seem worth it. I'm currently looking for a set of '65 Pure Vintage Jaguar pickups, but can't find any in the UK new or used (except one rip off place that wants 30% more than the usual price ::) ). Plenty available in the USA via eBay, but if they arrive faulty then not worth the agro.

No worries Mr Jagsquire.

Tho the StratosPHEre experience has been a right mess,I wont stop using USA sites because of 1 poor excuse for a supplier.

I have had really good service from other USA shops but never spent as much on a single item as with StRATosphERE.

Dont think I will again.

Unless.... The UK sort out A trade deal in the new year with the USA that is more like our arrangement with EU.

No import taxes/duties !! Fingers crossed
