Hey there!
Just decided to not be a lurker! Fun times ahead!
I am looking to purchase a JM soon, as I have a Jag that I WANT to love, but think the short scale is hurting our relationship!

An addition: In all fairness, I have only had the Jag for a week or so, and the string that are on it are heavier than I typically play, so I have a string change and some quality time to spend with her before we part ways :-)

Don't even bother with below 11s otherwise you'll not give the guitar a fighting chance. They need heavier strings
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

Thanks for the heads up! I'll definitely do a little research before I just go changing strings all willy billy.

Re: Hey there!
just fyi 12s seem to feel like 11s on a jag, just cause the short scale can make the playing tension feel sort of slinky. Going to a lighter gauge might feel less comfortable, but you never know! I kept 11s on my jag when I had it and it was fine, but yeah the scale length is gonna be the weirdest thing to get used to about that guitar. I hope you can bond with it!

I can't say I had a huge issue swapping between scales. It felt like a Jag is only like a JM with a capo on it.

Re: Hey there!
Your responses inspired me to pick up the Jag and just PLAY last night. By the end of the session, I was definitely grooving with it a bit (a lot) more. Despite the heavier strings, it definitely likes to bend. I'm definitely not writing it off!

Re: Hey there!
You could also consider a 10.5 hybrid set… or mix and match your own… as long as the strings are the same build.

Re: Hey there!
I have forced myself for the last few days to only pick up the Jag to play. I am a convert! The scale length is a non-issue, and even though the strings are heavier, they don't behave like heavier strings (as you all probably know all too well!). I just needed some time with it, and had to ignore my knee-jerk "this is different" reaction. It is not that I just accept the differences. I think I really like them, and could see a Jag becoming my go-to guitar. That was a 180!

Re: Hey there!
To add, the particular guitar that I currently have and quite like is a MIM Classic Player HH--not exactly a traditional Jag. I am really impressed with the MIM guitar's quality, finish, etc. In fact, it destroyed all of my snobby pre-conceived notions. I feel the pickups are a bit darker than they could be, but the range of sounds is pretty impressive.
I just found a Fender American Professional Jaguar for sale locally, and am going to pick it up, so I can have a few weeks of comparison to something that is a bit closer to traditional. I was going to hold out for an AV or AVRI or AO, but there seem to be a lot of people that actually like the AP more or at least think it is as good as the aforementioned offerings--just a little different with the finish/radius/switching.
I'll keep the one I like more. What that really means is that I will really keep both because I'm dumb.
