Join a forum, to fight gas? hahaha oh that's a good one.

Hi, I am an old person from California who's had an offset of one kind or another since the early 90's, in fact I went years as the only person I knew or even met who was playing an offset guitar, absorbing the strange looks and quiet whispers from all variety of other guitarists wondering what exactly I saw in them. Nice to meet you my offset brethren, people who saw the exact same thing I did! The subverted beauty of a true form and functional masterpiece of design! Traditionally underrated, now rated above and beyond what my wallet can keep up with!

It's been about 10 years since I owned my last Jazzmaster and despite my lovely Abernethy (also an offset of sorts), I have been feeling very itchy lately. So, what better way to prevent myself from caving and buying a Jazzmaster than to.. join a guitar forum with some of the nicest offset guitars on the planet. Yeah, that will work... "one week later" hey guys, check out my new JM :fp:

No but seriously, I've lurked this forum as one of those numerically insignificant but accounted for visitors without any real reason to create an account of my own, but now I'm going to try and motivate myself to redirect my gas towards working on the unpleasant thing I refer to as a "project guitar" rather than subjecting yet another beautiful instrument to my perpetually mediocre playing. Anyways, we'll see how that goes, and because I'm a bit of an idiot, I thought it would be only fair to introduce myself and implore you to tolerate my occasional subjectively unconstructive posts which I will attempt to keep to the utter minimum.

Anyhow, I like to play with synthesizers and guitars, I also enjoy retro gaming systems and chiptunes, 90's hip hop and um I don't know cats, I guess. I'm not sure what else I have to say at the moment other than I'll look forward to seeing all your beautiful guitars, your insightful posts, and the fruits of your various labors.

Cheers and all that.

Micah
offset since 1994.

Welcome! Offsets, retro gaming, chiptunes and cats are all things I'd be very happy to read posts about, so you're among friends here.

I found a couple pictures of my old 1963 beater jm that I still regret selling.
I was more attached to this guitar than any other fender offset I ever owned.

Anyway, I know it's kinda ugly and these pictures suck because they're probably 15 years old but I always liked it just how it was.

Compared to today's "ubiquitous" market, yes, peanuts. At the time, I got a reasonable amount for a beater that was routed for humbuckers.

I had a 63 that would have been worth a lot more than this one in 2023 if I'd held onto it, but I wasn't attached to it so it went easily. This guitar still pains me a bit, lot of bands and jams and many hours of playing time on this one.

That's the correct perspective, though. I view vintage guitars like I view stocks - with a "current" mindset at all times. I often find myself warning people not to play "stock market time machine" when they start talking about how they wish they had put some lunch money into X, Y or Z while they were cheap.

We exist only in the present, and every guitar bought or sold is only ever done in the present, so worrying about "what it would be worth now" is merely an exercise in self-torture.

It's of benefit in this life to learn how to let go. There's a fine line between "this too shall pass" and "just bury me with my things."
