Elvis Costello meets Brian Jones meets Jaguar

Post by my main man » Mon May 28, 2018 7:29 pm

Hi. New guy here. So I've been daydreaming about a new build lately. I was trying to think of sounds/type of guitar I like but don't have. I've always loved Jags but have never owned one. I also love the sound of Gibson Firebird pickups but don't have anything with them yet so I'm going to put this together.

Putting it together slowly. So far, I have the body, pickguard, control plates, neck, mastery bridge, and tuners. Just need a few more pieces and I can put it together. I will definitely start a thread once I get working on it officially. (Planning on getting the Mojotone Johnny Winter pickups)

This is what I'm shooting for:

I realize that staining maple and alder will give very different results so I'm probably not going to be able to do the above stained matching headstock.

I also really kind of like the aesthetic of pickup rings over pickguards. I don't know why. I just do. Going to do a real life mock-up like this and see what I think.

I am really happy with the pickup sound. The neck pickup is really warm. The bridge on it's own isn't impressive to me, but I like the sound of them both together. :) It's a keeper.
