Yep, I am pretty disappointed with it so far.

I've been a Logic user since version 3.

Logic 8 is wonderful.
I don't think your problem is with Logic, it's most likely the OS.
OS X 10.5 however has been a nightmare for most folks.

I'm still happily on 10.4 running Logic 8 like a charm.

I'm really enjoying my experience with Logic Express 8, and I'm running 10.5- I haven't had any issues other than needing to wait till the program is loaded to turn on my interface, and I think that problem is cause the interface's drivers are not up to date for 10.5.2.  I was mainly blown away by how much more powerful and full featured it was than GarageBand.  I ended up opening all my GarageBand projects in Logic and re-mixed them, and was very surprised by the improvement in sound quality.  The learning curve was a bit steep at first, but once you get the hang of it it's very intuitive.  I especially like the consolidated interface since my only computer is my MacBook Pro.

I also haven't had any problems really with 10.5, the most annoying part has been waiting for people to roll out compatible versions of their programs.  Maybe I've just been lucky, but I am really enjoying both Logic 8 and Leopard.

This is one of the issues notated in the article I linked above.
In short most audio/midi device drivers are actually fine, it's the latest installment of Leopard 10.5 that isn't playing nice with the drivers.
According to Apple the next OS X update (10.5.3) should have a fix for this.

Don't blame your audio card company, blame Apple for this one!

I still don't have a reason to update to 10.5, so I'll follow Pixar Studios advice (they're known for this) and "lock" my system down from any OS and software updates (with the exception of Logic Studio 8.2 which just came out which fixes some of the bugs that bugged me)

Interesting that it's actually 10.5.2,  I mainly thought that it was the interface's drivers because i contacted M-Audio customer support and they said that their drivers didn't support 10.5.2 and that they'd let me know if there was an update.  10.5.3 is supposed to roll out on June 9th around Apple's WWDC event, so looks like I won't have to wait too long.  Did they update Logic Express to 8.2 also?

Edit- I ran software update after posting this and found that 10.5.3 is out as well as Logic Express 8.2
