Logic being stupid

Post by BenHagerty » Fri May 09, 2008 5:23 pm

So I go to record a rifflet I came up with, but no, logic refuses to work. I open the program, go up to the bar at the top and that annoying rainbow wheel comes up indicating it froze and such and I am mad. I installed the update idk what else to do besides reinstall it

reboot is the first step... that is,  once you get the spinning rainbow ball.

second, make sure the sound card settings are right.

does the sound work with other programs?

if so, try deleting logics prefs. ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.logic.*

otherwise, sounds like a reinstall...

Do you have any third party plug ins installed?
If so, move them out of the plug in folder and then try booting Logic again.

Try switching between your soundcard and the native soundcard within the machine (Audio Prefs)
Unplug any audio and/or MIDI devices.

In other words start taking things out of the chain and putting them back in to see where the conflict is.

I have never suffered this particular problem, but Logic messes with me all the time. Sometimes there's no sound, it refuses to find recently recorded clips, the meters stop moving, i get random system overload messages even when there's only one track of audio, etc. It saddens me cause it's such a great program.

Yeah, it crashes a lot. I might start using garage band again

yeah - logic is a real cpu/ram hog. i'm on protools (which isn't much better), but once you give it 1GB, its relatively stable.

Are you using a USB interface?  I found that Logic boots up much faster with my M-Audio Fast Track Pro turned off.  I then wait till the program loads completely and turn it on and say "yes" when it asks me if I want to use it as the interface.  When I tried starting up with it already on, it always got hung up on the "loading MIDI drivers" part and I'd have to reboot or restart the computer, but with it off on startup it works great- no problems.

Yeah, I have found that Logic just takes forever to load, no big deal
