“Nostalgia and hipsterism” isn’t quite the same as “leveraging prior cultural reference points/signifiers in the creation of new art.”

But they can be easy to conflate, and the line can be fuzzy.

Especially since new technology is cheaper, more advanced, and easy to use..

I finally found my old Tascam in the attic. No PSU but it runs off a 12v DC center-neg pedal sized input so I hooked it up to my cioks. Everything seems to still be working, but I have no tapes to check it with fully. I think I bought this in about 1998 but think it was last used about 2004.

If anyone here wants it, you're welcome to it for the cost of shipping plus a donation of your choice to a charity of your choice...

I'm in the UK but happy to ship anywhere if you cover it.

The reason.
The goddam m8thaf*kn reason some of us prefer "OG/heritage/hipstershit" methods is that we were not brought up in the computer age and have had to adapt to it later in life. Our brains grew up differently.

I could not garageband my way out of a wet paper bag but oboy, can I light a fire!
;D ;D

Also: Moreland Magnetics of Atlanta, in addition to making killer pedals, occasionally refurbishes and sells cassette 4-tracks. Look him up.

Ive been using Pro tools for almost 25 years now..
(Had the 4 track cassette, then a 1/2 inch Otari 8 track Reel to Reel)

So I wasn't exactly brought up in the computer age.. Then again ive been mixing professionally for the past 21 years at a 40 hours a week staff position so Im pretty good at the clicks and zips of using a DAW.. well PT, ive never used another DAW, never had the need to. (Granted we did have a soundscape rig back in the early 2000s for a couple years.. dog shit)

Had one of those a couple years older, I imagine. No clue what happened to it, and I've no use for one now, but good on you, dude; just a nice representation of the general attitude around here (I say as mostly a lurker).

Here's one that just showed up today. Looks like a bare bones model.

The one I posted above is still up for grabs (for free, just cover postage) if someone will actually use it.

*Now claimed*

I'd definitely consider an ADAT to be the worst of both worlds... low sample rate AND unreliable? Where do I sign up? ;D

I'm a wee bit nostalgic about the ADAT, but too old to be a hipster. On that basis, maybe those and DAT recorders/players are the format that'll never come back.
