Apogee Duet- worth the money?? Edit: just got it, awesome!
I am selling most of my fx pedals with no desire to buy more anytime soon. This got me thinking about investing the money in a better interface. I have an M-Audio Fast Track Pro, and while it wasn't terrible sounding, I've recently been having lots of issues with it. The 1st input appears to be totally shot, I can't get it to receive any signal, and I constantly have to reboot it after getting weird static clicking through my monitors.
I've been looking at the Apogee duet, seems like the best thing out there, it's gotten nothing but rave reviews but I am wondering if it's really worth ponying up 500 bucks for it. What do you all think? Worth getting?

I've been reading reviews and it sounds awesome. Hoping someone that has or has used one will chime in with their experience. The stuff I've read says there's pretty dramatic increase in sound quality over the Fast Track Pro.

Suppose to be one of the best interfaces out there for quality compared to the cost. If your going to be spending money on a new smaller interface anyway, I don't see why you wouldn't pick one of these up.

Trigger pulled ![ph34r ](./images/smilies/ph34r.gif)
Talked to Cauger about his and he loves it. Read a ton of reviews online, all glowing, and Glimmertwin's post helped convince me since I'd already be in the market for a new interface anyway. Can't wait to try this thing out!

Apogee have got a new more budget-minded interface out - called "Apogee One". Looks pretty cool provided you've got less demands on your equipment:

Yeah that One looks cool, it has a built in condenser mic too. I am getting really excited for my Duet to get here, I watched all the demo vids on Apogee's site and it looks awesome.

The One looks nice, but it only has a single input, which is silly considering the price.

The Duet's A/D converters sound fantastic.
They are right up to par with my RME Fireface 800.
The one thing I'd recommend would be to buy one of those Breakout Box kits to replace the flimsy breakout cable.

Then again, if you're only doing acoustic things or one-input jobs, you could argue that the Duet is overkill (and twice the price of the One). I think they complement each other and broaden Apogee's offerings well.Pingu wrote: The One looks nice, but it only has a single input, which is silly considering the price.

I just think they're going to have trouble selling it, considering the wide assortment of good two-input interfaces in that price range. You can get something a lot better than a Behringer for 250€.

That thing looks really cool, don't think I'll be shelling out 100 bones for it though. Seems expensive for a simple box with inputs.prospect wrote: The Duet's A/D converters sound fantastic.

Re: Apogee Duet- worth the money?? Edit: just got it, awesome!
It came today, I had the afternoon to learn it's features and lay down some scratch stuff. This thing is totally Apple-like, from the design to the packaging to the ease of use and great quality. The Maestro software makes it so easy control monitoring, and it integrates with my Mac perfectly. Works like a dream with Logic Express. The sound quality seems really good too even though I only laid down a few scratch tracks with it. Highly recommended! I had also purchased an extended warranty from Square Trade for my old interface and they are giving me a full refund that I can use toward the Duet's cost. ![Cool 8)](./images/smilies/cool.gif)

I got one recently.
Good things: sounds great, looks great, easy to use.
Bad things: annoying Maestro software opens every time I start the computer, wheel makes an annoying clicking sound, no way to set wheel sensitivity, no included mini-firewire cable, which is strange considering that they market it as a portable interface.
