does anyone know any good books or sites or whatever about mixing? I find getting a good mix SO hard...

Recording Tips for Engineers

It actually was my textbook for 2 semesters. it's a great book.

3 brittish trade mags I like are

Sound on Sound
Computer Music
Future music..

unlike US magazines I find they offer a lot of hands on examples of gear and mixing techniques..

I know the latter two are mainly concerned with synthy stuff, but the general application of methods
crosses over to all genre;s..
