I just got a 24inch I MAC 2.4ghz 2 megs of memory.. I am looking forward to messing around with Garage band.
I ordered a Griffin I MAC/guitar cable, says I can plug guitar directly into the sound card, has anyone done that and how were the results?
My Mentor told me to get an Apogee Duet instead of the cable but its 495.00 that I don't want to spend right now.
Anyone have any experience with that thru Garage band or Logic Express or Logic Pro?

it can work in a pinch, but you won't get great results...thin and digital sounding, but clear...in a mix the stereo field tends to be wide and flat. might be fine messing around in Garage Band until you learn the program a bit, but you'll want to invest in something better if you stick with it.

I'm using one with Logic Pro and it is certainly worth it...very versatile for such a simple box...nice mobile set up. The converters alone are a huge step up from anything else in it's price range. Not super high end, but you'd have to spend 3 times as much to get comparable converters. The pre amps are very transparent with plenty of headroom...a very quiet unit, though i usually go line in with outboard pre amps and skip the Duet's. I was sold when I found out you could use it as a re-amp device!

If you're just messing around, something simple and cheap should still work well .. I started with an M-Audio two channel USB pre which was cheap as chips and it does the job just fine. I bought it thinking I would upgrade if necessary but I can't see needing to do that for quite a while if ever.
