I love the sheer simplicity of this small bodied mahogany Martin...

That guitar is just begging to be fingerpicked!  :o Mmmm.... I love those vintage 17 series acoustics. They're almost nylon-sounding. Great for folk, jazz, and bossa nova. Very warm and woody sounding.  :-* :-* :-*

I believe that's the model (0-17) we had around the house when I was growing up.

I ran around and tried to play along to Clash and Devo (age 11 or so), only dropping the guitar a couple of times.

Man, anybody who disagrees with you is clearly on some kind of psychedelic. When WWII forced instrument companies to skimp on aesthetics and certain materials, it really didn't do anybody a disservice, or at least not Martin. Besides, it's interesting for me to see what kind of impact human conflicts have on the world of music, even when the two are nowhere close to being related.

Good lesson in anthropology.

really, I'm surprised that they aren't more (ca. $2000 on gbase for a 70+ year old guitar).

How come every modern acoustic doesn't have tuners like that?  :-\

it's because they are all mahogany, and they have a warmer tone...one that isn't the standard Martin sound that people like.

the equivalent 0-18 is way more expensive.
