Such a lovely guitar. A colleague in graduate school had a '54 that had been refinished at Kalamazoo in the '70s -- a beautiful guitar but not nearly as gorgeous as this one.

That is lovely.
Is it a '54? I thought they still had the wraparound tailpiece in '54 and went to the stoptail sometime in '55?

The Custom always had the stoptail whereas the regular LP had a wraparound tailpiece from '53-'55 or thereabouts.mezcalhead wrote: That is lovely.

What's up with the P-90 in the neck? Those pole pieces are different than what I'm used to seeing - did they used to make em a little differnetly back then?
Great photos by the way...

Gibson put out a reissue replica of this model not too long ago, but it didn't have the right pickups. Those original '54 black P-90s with the gold rectangular pole pieces are really unique.glimmertwin wrote: What's up with the P-90 in the neck? It appears to have a new nut, though, so... well... you know... I guess it's okay and all, but that really ruins it for me.
I'm certainly a clanky guitar player at best, but I'd still love to noodle on this one for a while.
Much like an old book, I'm guessing this guitar even smells kind of good.
