Looking for a decent electric drum kit
So, as I set up my new studio space, I'm looking to get some e-drums, both for practice and for triggering sample libraries like Superior Drummer for recording purposes.
I can hack my way through basic drum parts and want to be practicing on it, but I'll also be bringing in drummers from different projects to use it. I'm therefore looking for something with all-mesh heads to give at least a decent feel.
My budget is "as cheap as I can get an all-mesh kit". Right now, the frontrunner is the Roland TD-11KV, but I'm happy to hear of other suggestions.

Roland is the way to go. I just bought an alesis set and am rather unimpressed. The dm10 is only like $200 less than the 11kv... spend the extra cash and get the better sounding/playing kit.
in your price range they also have a ddrum set. I've read mixed reviews but no 1st hand experience.

What is acoustic? Oh, you means a grandpa's guitars? A grandpa's guitars? That's for pussies and grandpas. I think you know it.

Yeah, I have heard that the Alesis kits look good on paper and then let people down in practice. Thanks for confirming Roland>Alesis. Yamaha seems to only offer silicone heads in that price range. I hadn't heard of ddrum electric kits...the only ones I can find on their site look like they have rubber pads and not mesh.FightingPlankton wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2017 12:33 pmRoland is the way to go. I'm not rave enough to DIY an "A to E" kit, so so far the 11KV is still in the lead.

the ddrum dd-5x is the mesh head kit
if you WANT to do analog to digital, DDrum makes a module with triggers kit for about $200, I again, have no real world experience with these.
OR you could use roland rt triggers and the ddrum DDTi trigger interface, then use that to trigger sounds from your computer or other midi device.

Interesting, I didn't see that one listed on the ddrum web site. It seems to be labeled as "limited edition" some places online - maybe it was discontinued?
I'm checking into reviews for that one, thanks.

If I were to do it again, I would have saved up for the Roland or...
the alesis strike. I like the strike kit because each pad has actual shells and sensitivity controls mounted right on them.

Yeah, having played a few of these, I would probably stick to roland in the low end price bracket.

we have a Roland TD11 (without the mesh heads). it's great.
If I was a byrd, I'd be mighty sore every time they shut the door and I don't think I'd sing...
