Re: The Synth Thread...
I've been hanging up the necks to get them off the top of boxes. I'm always afraid of dropping one, which I just did the other week. It popped a fret out and chipped a bit of the edge of the fretboard. And of course, it was one I was considering selling

Do you have experience with any of the other Roland 'boutique' units? Both of the new ones and also some existing models have caught my eye. Can't try any out prior to purchase, so it's just videos & other people's opinions as my research. (I don't really want to grab all/heaps of them if they're covering too similar ground!)mackerelmint wrote: ↑Sun Nov 14, 2021 8:21 pmNew Roland JX-08 coming soon... a miniature JX-8P with more polyphony and plenty of sliders onboard. Unlike the original which had one, or you could buy a separate programmer.
I preordered one. There's a great freebie plugin, and I have it, but hardware wins every time.

Best Boutique: D-05
The new ones have a more powerful chip (Roland BMC vs. ESC2) but use the Zencore ACM models against the olders which use ACB with limited polyphony.
Beware that all these units are constrained by the USB 5V internal power that makes the D/A converters sound a little bit wimpy...

Just the TR-808 one, and only a little at that. The only real negative thing I've heard about the line is in the case of the knobs and sliders. People with big fingers have some trouble with the knobs, but that's not my issue. The sliders, though, are shorter than on the originals, so it's a bit harder to dial things in exactly, is what I've heard. And that makes sense.Futuron wrote: ↑Tue Nov 23, 2021 1:21 amDo you have experience with any of the other Roland 'boutique' units? So I guess this will be my proper introduction to the boutique line. We'll see how it goes, but I'm optimistic. Chiefly I want to load in preexisting sounds, because I'm a lousy programmer. It should be fine for that, and the size is right. If I somehow get good at programming (it's been years of trying and no real progress, so...) and it's suddenly cramping my style, I'll reevaluate, I guess.
This is an excellent rectangle

Yeah, that limited polyphony is why i never bought the JX-3P one. Now that it's been upped past the spec of the original units, it seems like a great deal to me. Nice to know about the converters.matbard wrote: ↑Tue Nov 23, 2021 2:13 amBest Boutique: D-05

So I was craving a Novation Peak since it came out in 2017 I guess. Now, last week I bit the bullet and got one eventually and it arrived today. What a glorious day that is!

Just took possession of a Waldorf Streichfett. The sound in my head for strings seems to be solved forever.

Re: The Synth Thread...
The JX-08 doesn't load sysex!
I mean, it still sounds wonderful, so there's that. But I'll have to load sysex into a plugin and crib the settings from that in order to load patches in, which, boo. Maybe they'll fix that in a firmware update at some point?
Sounds glorious, tho, and really is easy to program. Maybe I'll get somewhere with my programming skills this time around.

Nice. That's one I keep going back to and thinking I'd be better off with than without. They really do sound great.Unicorn Warrior wrote: ↑Sat Jan 22, 2022 12:59 pmJust took possession of a Waldorf Streichfett. The sound in my head for strings seems to be solved forever.

Re: The Synth Thread...
I’m somewhat synth illiterate. I first thought a Behringer Deepmind would scratch this itch. It ended up being more complicated than I wanted. With the Streichfett, I was able to dial a good sound immediately. And for only the price of a nice guitar pedal used it was a no brainer. What’s more is If you want more synth capabilities you could always invest in a nicer midi controler.mackerelmint wrote: ↑Sun Jan 23, 2022 1:43 amNice. But the sounds on this are classic 80s and just good all over. Such a usable tool and glad I found it. I think maybe I first saw it on here as with most of the other gear I come across
