Korg microKORG 2!!
loopop - MicroKORG 2 vs the OG // Here's a preview of what's new
This sounds awesome!! I've been considering an OG MicroKORG for a year or so, partially because of reviews from you fine folks, partially from online reviews, versatility, etc. The upgrades seem very worthwhile and well thought out.
I do think that considering how often people have modded their OG MicroKORG to a desktop synth (no keyboard), it would've been worth it for Korg to release a desktop version, but maybe they will!!
Anyone who's got an original plan to upgrade to the 2?

For sure. 20-21 years later, the original is still on a bunch of stuff I'd imagine. Or at least some songwriting done on a song to get the basics down?

I use mine nearly daily still for writing. The screen doesn't work anymore after it lost a fight with a pint of Guinness. It's used more as a small midi input for Logic now with the occasional use of internal sounds, but if it died I would replace it instantly.Shadoweclipse13 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 24, 2024 12:10 amFor sure. 20-21 years later, the original is still on a bunch of stuff I'd imagine. But would you replace it with an OG? With the 2 coming out now?GreenKnee wrote: ↑Wed Jan 24, 2024 1:23 amI use mine nearly daily still for writing. Re: Korg microKORG 2!!
If the 2 is going to be between £600 and £700 like my quick search suggests then I'd definitely just get the original version, preferably second hand.Shadoweclipse13 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 24, 2024 2:24 amBut would you replace it with an OG? With the 2 coming out now?![]()
No doubt the new version is going to be brilliant, I can guarantee it would be wasted on me though.

Re: Korg microKORG 2!!
Yeah, the idea that it'll be that expensive kinda sucks. The whole ubiquitousness of the original, in my opinion, is due partially (if not *most* of the reason) to the low price point. It was crazy accessible to a lot of people. $600-$700 is not a small amount of money...GreenKnee wrote: ↑Wed Jan 24, 2024 8:25 amIf the 2 is going to be between £600 and £700 like my quick search suggests then I'd definitely just get the original version, preferably second hand.Shadoweclipse13 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 24, 2024 2:24 amBut would you replace it with an OG? Re: Korg microKORG 2!!
I feel like I get bored with the microKORG too quickly, and not a fan of the mini keys. But still interested to see what the new one can do.
All pain and troubles melted away like lemon drops beyond the contrails across the sky.

Loving mine so far. The new use interface already makes it ten times more useful than the O.G., which can now enjoy its hard-earned retirement -- poor thing's literally falling apart after 20 years of regular use. Going to invest in some sort of case or bag for the new guy.

Glad to hear! I've been tempted, but haven't heard from many people who've done more than demoed them here and there...Rob wrote: ↑Sat Oct 12, 2024 1:26 pmLoving mine so far. Re: Korg microKORG 2!!
I kinda forgot about it for awhile with all the production/release delays, but it's really is just a modern successor -- warts and all. The microKorg was never the best-sounding synth, and neither is the microKorg 2. The new vocoder is just as weak as the original, and some of the new features (like the loop recorder and amp simulator) haven't been very useful to me so far.Shadoweclipse13 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 17, 2024 10:27 pmGlad to hear! But, like the original, it's still a lot function for the money. Almost as tiny as the original, still very desk/stage-friendly, and many of the new features (8-note polyphony, tap tempo, the multifunction knobs, THE SCREEN, 64 discrete slots for user patches), have all been lifesavers so far.
