Quality guitar straps for short people with high-up guitars

Post by MechaBulletBill » Sun Nov 20, 2016 6:46 am

I have a strap from Couch in the USA. It's a quality product, but it's marketed as a long strap for tall people, presumably those for whom most straps don't go ball-scratchingly low enough.

I have the opposite problem. I'm about 5'11" and I like the guitar way up there. No chance of buckle rash for me! Therefore, my couch strap is set as short as it will go, which is (luckily) just about perfect.

The other straps I've used have been of the loop-adjust type like these cheapy planet waves leather ones, but they can't go short enough, even when going through the two most distant adjustment holes and using the nearer strap button hole.

I was gonna put an Air strap on my xmas/new year purchase list but they're even longer than Couch's!

I'd like to hear if anybody else has had the same problem as me and found a quality strap that works for them.

i like my guitars quite high, too, because i do a lot of finger picking. tried a few straps over the years and the standard tweed fender straps seem to give me just the the right adjustment range and are comfortable enough. i'm about average height, though.

another idea: i've also brought vintage straps to shoemakers in the past (to have them repaired/adjusted), so if you find one you really fancy, shortening to your taste should be no prob and not expensive.

Mr. Lo-FI (Couch) makes great straps, imo.

I don't get down to the LBC much these days,
but I'd imagine that Couch could probably accommodate
Your need for a shorter strap with some extra holes in it.

I'm 5'9" and like my guitars to sit a little higher than average, but more or less "standard" height, I guess... I use pretty much nothing but basic black Levi's straps (they're all older, and used, so I have no idea what they're like anymore) and I have mine set about 2 inches past being fully extended, i.e. I could just about get it to where the guitar was sitting at my neck if I really wanted to.

Edit:

I was curious, so I went ahead and adjusted it to the smallest it would go, and it's higher than this:

Also, the product name is MC8, and they're like $30-40.

It is super comfy, I wish I was cool enough to wear it that high. However, it's perfectly fine where I have it, so w/e.

5'11" makes you a short person?

Ha! My 5'6" frame and my future children with my 5'0" fiancee mock your gigantism.

I use couch straps but I guess I don't like my guitars quite as high as you...my Levy's straps go impractically short if that's what you care about, much like that photo that was posted...

I have a souldier strap now and, it's not leather, but it is a good length for me.

Much of my family is over six foot so yes, I am short just not as short as some gimlis out there.
