I really love that little KR-Mini as well. Sounds fine, easy to program, takes two footswitches. It's more powerful than it looks. I have better drum machines but this what I use when I just want a quick drum track to jam to.

I've had a Roland R5 from new. Round about 1995 I think, maybe a year or two either way. I still use it now to put down a basic drum loop track rather than a click track when I'm recording. Used to spend hours programming patterns and linking them up to create a whole song. It has a sort of humanise function that slightly moves the timing and the voices can be edited and made into extra 'kits'. I think there was an 808 kit in there somewhere too.

These days I prefer to add the main drum track by playing it live on my Roland TD30 kit. Still takes a while to get a good take, but at least I'm improving my playing while I make each attempt. I'm sure there must be a way of 'recording' my drumming into the R5 as one long pattern, then I could edit it to correct my errors (and poor bass drum technique), but I've never quite figured out how to do it.

I did this cheesy cover of Apache years ago using the R5 and programmed the whole song. I've long since lost the backup of the programming so I can't go back and tidy some of the clunkier bits, though I did add newer guitar and bass parts a few years ago to try out a little Vox MV50AC head I bought that has a DI function:
