Reminds me of something I'd have seen my dad play when I was little.
It's not about the gear! It's about you, your hands, your imagination, your feelings.

i think you did great!noirengineer wrote: did i overpay?
any thoughts?
did i do well?
they look wonderfull, i love old ludvig kits, the floor toms are huge when you get them juuuust right.
but less gushing(ps. sweet colour)
the first step i would take with these is find a bottom hoop and some lugs for your rack tom, and get a reso head for it.
if you want to improve the sound of your kit as a whole i'd just pick up some new skins, it's really the easiest thing for you to do. BUT, if you're feeling adventurous, maybe sand down some of rims and wax them(you can find info on that with zee google) that way, the sound is pure and whole instead of broken up(get it? i think i'm explaining it badly) i did it on my mid level sonor's that i got this year and they sound 3.5 times better. you could also rub the insides with some linseed oil, that's another good trick to get some great tone.
after you figure out what kind of sound you want from your snare, i recommend getting one made for you, i did this recently and wow, i'm in love with it.
it's like a micro, 10 by 2.5 soooo snappy.
oh! you should experiment with padding in the kick, i don't use any in mine, but i've gotten some control heads and a riser, so it's just beefy.
ok drum nerd talk over
oh wait cymbals, try the sabian packs, great for on the cheap.
ps. don't skimp on your throne, it's like getting crappy work shoes, just not worth it in the long run.

Re: my new drum kit --did i do well?
this has been REALLY helpful, thanks
ok i do have a few questions.. and comments on the condition of it
I want to be able to get a really nice jazzy cocktail type sound..
firstly, the condition of the drums are a bit disappointing to be honest.
but I think the wrap is ok for now, I'm mostly interested in making them sound better,
and the other stuff seems less important. so here's my prob. might need new lugs.
basically the all the chrome is in poor shape on the kit.
KICK: Needs new Legs .. Missing one (maybe replace both?)
Missing 1 Tension rod front. repaint black stripe on both sides
FL Tom: All legs missing rubber bumpers and 1 lug screw missing on one leg --> loose.
needs 16" chrome rim
R Tom: Rack mounting hardware is oxidated and possibly needs replace.-
needs 13" 6 hole chrome rim
ALL Heads and skins could use replacing.
ALL Chrome needs cleaning possibly lube?
-------------------------------------------------
sounds good otherwise!
do you know any good resources for finding these pieces?
it looks to be half this kit?

I suspect it's gonna sound nasty when i fix it up. Plus, u get
to customize your drum sound, as opposed to relying on other
drummer's (and their kits) to determine the outcome. I feel
oddly empowered and overly enthusiastic about drumming now.

well for all my drum needs i go to a local shop up the street, so maybe you should head into your local friendly music store.

Great score I'd say! As Jonas said prices on those old Ludwig sets are crazy in this end of the world...
BTW - What the fuck is that blue cylinder in front? A throne????

Maybe a throne that doubles as a hardware case?the older brother wrote: BTW - What the fuck is that blue cylinder in front? A throne????
Edit: it actually says "seat case" in the description, so yeah, I guess so.

I don't know. I have a vision of a mouse stomping on the hi-hat pedal while someone sits on the thing. Ouch.

Re: my new drum kit --did i do well?
thank you guys! I cleaned it up a bit with some windex..
woah what a difference! This thing looked as if it were
in a barn covered in mud before, now it looks sexy!
Also, I padded the bottom of the kick near the beater side
and tuned (even w/o new heads) it just sounds killer..
can't wait to get her up and running!
LOL! so. I bought some NOS parts (almost!) but ludwig nonetheless, new spur for KD
Few lugs, rims, tension rods, replacement muffler for floor tom.. plus plastic rubber feet.
Currently, bidding on foot pedal.. ludwig? No double bass, single kick pedal (Speed King?)
Also looking into this. http://www.2112online.com/cgi-bin/shop/ ... r=LUDL1372
Still holding out to find perfect snare and cymbals.. all the hardware first
cause it's a no brainer. but I went to guitar center today.. I'm never going in there again.
Totally out of touch with what I'm going for.. but did get a chance to beat on a few cymbals.
might just hold out till i can afford a Zildjian K series BIG" RIDE and quality crash.

dude, i've seen these on ebay! I didn't bid on em, cause it's ridiculous,Orang Goreng wrote: I don't know. I have a vision of a mouse stomping on the hi-hat pedal while someone sits on the thing. Ouch.
but supposedly, they're collectors items or something. It's a wrapped
cylinder in blue sparkle.. it opens up with notch to hold sticks + mallets.
