So… I thought I‘d lean in here… as the title is closest to what I need - and at least some of the experts on the topic are already here.

I‘m looking for recommendations for stage pianos and/or keyboards with the real thing piano like weighted keys and the dynamics you would get on a real piano.

So no cheap plastic or even smaller keys please. (The Reface series sounds like a lot of fun though)

We tried a Yamaha 515 yesterday - but 1500€ would be slightly above budget.
It is for my wife who once upon a lifetime learned piano and is getting back to it (and for me - I‘m entry level pianist but decent at playing by ear/finding melodies… right now I‘m learning Philipp Glass‘ „Metamorphosis One“) mainly for home use, songwriting and recording (and maybe one day even stage use).

It should do convincing Acoustic Pianos and something like a Rhodes. Open for more of course (for songwriting some Organs or Strings etc. could be nice - the 515 even has a drum/metronome section) - very open for other quality brands (Kurzweil, Kawai, Korg, Nord, Roland,…)

Our current cheap keyboard is a Yamaha PSR-295 with shitty keys and dynamics - so not very fun to play and rather frustrating as you really have to hit some keys with a lot of force to even get a sound…

I have a Yamaha P-115. I got it used for $400 and I love it. I prefer its action & sound over the Roland FP-30.
But they have a new model called the P121 that is only 73 keys so it's way more portable and fits in smaller spaces.

But they have a new model called the P121 that is only 73 keys so it's way more portable and fits in smaller spaces.

I‘d say my budget is 800ish.
Don‘t necessarily need them all… 73 would do just fine. Key-feel and overall quality matters most.

Most Yamaha stage/digital pianos in the mid price range have „Graded Hammer Compact (GHC)“ keys - and the one we tried had „NWX (Natural Wood X) Wood keys with escapement and synthetic ivory overlays“…which felt very good… but I don‘t know how those compare.

Kurzweil have hammer mechanics as well.

There would be a Yamaha P 255 for 450€ locally which seems like a more than alright price.

Does the basics perfectly. Fits really well in the cupboard next to my hoover after years of gathering dust barely getting played

I like the Yamaha graded action but m not a piano player. I just found it to be more comfortable than the Roland equivalent. It was easier for my kid to play too… before she lost interest
