Noob question abt the Korg Nano series
Ok, i know zilch abt MIDI controllers, but im keen to learn. So the local KORG dealer is offering a sweet deal , take all 3 KOrg Nano series ( Keys, Pad, Kontrol) for approx USD 110. Looks like a good offer than I can take up. so here are some questions:
1) I know a lil bit what the nanoKey could do, but whats the function of the other two in the series??
2) Can I use all these in a live situation or is it just for recording?
3) Plug & play ie USB, no need a separate audio interface ?
4) the CONS of not having MIDI I/O?
Thanks

Re: Noob question abt the Korg Nano series
Seems like a good offer, they're about 80$ each around here. I'm sort of thinking about getting just the Kontrol.
1: The thing with knobs and sliders control volume, panning, etc. The one with the pads you play drums with.
2: Both, except that it might be hard to play the tiny keyboard in the dark.
3: Safely assume that they come with drivers. You might want to get a USB hub though.
4: Why would you need MIDI I/O with devices made to work with a computer? I'm sure someone more tech-savvy will come around and prove me wrong.

Re: Noob question abt the Korg Nano series
let me add;
1. all knobs and faders are midi assignable, so they can be set up to control pretty much anything
2. you can certainly use these live and take the sound from your computer and run it into a PA/amp
3. with a pc you will (more than likely) need drivers. with a mac you won't.
4. the cons of not not having midi I/O: all your sounds will be software sounds.
you cannot control other midi instruments.
you can't hook up to sound modules.

Well, you can control samples of anything with them, right? Pre-record guitar chords, mess them up on your computer, and then trigger them with the pads? Or start/stop loops and patterns?Pingu wrote: The one with the pads you play drums with.

I assume so, unless you have a shitty DAW where you can't change the MIDI mapping. All those things are certainly very easy to do in Ableton.El Pr0n wrote:Well, you can control samples of anything with them, right? Re: Noob question abt the Korg Nano series
Thanks everyone.
One more question, although this probably is veering towards the Recording thread:
I am currently using Cubase with Guitar Rig to record tracks. Can I use the tracks i record with the nanos to layer it on the tracks i created on cubase ( file extension .cpr) ?

Oh, I just looked at your username properly, you're probably a Radiohead fan
The best use of a controller like that (that I've seen), is Jonny Greenwood controlling the drums in the live versions of 15 Step; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gnnBt9WcH0
I think that's the sort of potential a lot of people don't get into.
