...people used to say this about vintage Fenders when they were just 'old guitars'. But I know what you mean - I've routed out plenty of guitars without any consideration for future value :D

I mean it probably does make a big difference. Maybe it is worth it?

That hatch is stock. There is usually a riveted leather cover that pops on to hide it.

Actually I learned two things… the Country Gentleman has a Hatch (tm) and Gretsch should be ASHAMED! :D

Yes they should :D although I think it would be impossible to wire up without it as the f-holes were/are painted on a few models.
