What’s the story on the “extra parts”?
Based on the fact that those two added knobs are Mosrite items and it has a pushbutton and slider switch, I would assume that a Mosrite "Fuzzrite" fuzz box has been incorporated into this Mustang.

While I don't condone hacking up vintage Fenders, that is also pretty damn cool.

I’m picking it up tomorrow
There was apparently a lot of interest, but he wanted to do pickup only.
And it seems he’s a luthier so I have good hopes the mods were done in a good way

Yup, 895!
And it will satisfy my late 70's musicmaster and kahler itch at the same time :w00t:
I'll try to send some more pictures and a video when I have it in my hands

Oh absolutely not! It's perfect! Yeah I'll keep you in mind for sure. I know who to find for "metal" modded fenders :-*
This guitar is basically the result of FOMO from not buying your 70's floyd rose modded strat :fp:

Cool!
I'd put a DiMarzio SDS-1 in the neck and a SuperDistortion in the bridge, in classic creme. Et voilà. :-*

I'd never even consider paying 895 for an all-original, but for this one it seems like a steal!

The Super-master; it's cool!
So the luthier got a grocery bag full of a disassembled musicmaster in the colour it currently is.
It didn't have the original pickups and was routed with a chisel.

He is a superstrat builder so he replaced the rusted and painted bridge with a kahler, cleaned up the routing, replaced the pickups and hang it on it's wall for 15 years.

So it's really well converted (I have my fair share of converted vintage offsets), which I'm thrilled with. Because that means no extra costs.

I'm also happily surprised with the kahler, it reminds me a lot of my Yamaha sgv tremolo and it definitely does the shoegaze/surf shimmer and it takes bends in contrary to a floyd rose, which I don't really enjoy. I'm not sure if I'm set on the pickups but they'll do for now.

Btw, I don't know if this is common with late 70's musicmasters? But it feels much more like a toy than my mustangs.

Honestly I think it looks awesome, it straddles that line between stock and overly modded perfectly, right in the middle in the Goldilocks zone, as I see it.

The fact it has a slight toyness to it would actually make it more fun to play from my perspective - I always liked that about Mustangs as compared to Jags. Mustangs were the younger sister offsets to the more grown up ladylike Jags, so I suppose the same would apply between the Mustang and Musicmaster.

How does the vibrato range compare to an offset? Thing I always notice and have to adjust to when going from Jag to Meteora (with Strat style trem) is you can do the subtle shimmer wobbles with almost no effort and get the same pitch range in a shorter travel, it's almost too easy actually. Is it anything like that?
